PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rueben Roth (ranked 2350 p4p, 2931 weight class) and Warren Peace (ranked 288 p4p, 368 weight class). Peace has chosen Somebody Gonna Get It as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rueben Roth!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Warren Peace!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Phil Schofield and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Peace looks to land a right hand but Roth moved out of range.
Peace uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Roth.
Peace tries to counter with a clinch but Roth shakes him off and moves away.
Peace scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Roth doesn't seem bothered though.
Peace swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Roth feinted with a counter takedown.
Peace throws out a powerful jab.

It looks like Rueben Roth has been cut.
Peace will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Roth has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That was a close round but I would say that Rueben Roth will probably get the nod.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

I was talking to Roth's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Peace works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

I think Peace has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
