Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Phol Boxaaja (ranked 2508 p4p, 2464 weight class) and Kalle Kossu (ranked 337 p4p, 332 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 14 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Phol Boxaaja!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kalle Kossu!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Gwen Towbar and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kossu bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Boxaaja's head.
Boxaaja checks a leg kick nicely.
Boxaaja blocks a head kick by Kossu.
Boxaaja fails to land the takedown.
Boxaaja doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Kossu counters with a nice uppercut.
A left and a right from Kossu both land. Nice combination.
Boxaaja shoots in looking for a takedown. Kossu tries to sprawl out of it but Boxaaja keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kossu manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Phol Boxaaja. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Kossu appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.

Kossu is looking to stand up but Boxaaja isn't so interested in that idea.

Boxaaja is pushing down on Kossu's leg trying to pass to half guard. Kossu is fighting to maintain full guard but Boxaaja has managed to sneak the leg through.
Boxaaja has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Boxaaja stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Boxaaja shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Kossu defends it nicely.

Kossu rushes Boxaaja and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Boxaaja tries to pull guard but Kossu forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Kossu misses with the head strike.
Kossu can't find room to land a body shot as Boxaaja controls the action.
Kossu stops a takedown attempt from Boxaaja.
Kossu throws a head punch that misses.
Boxaaja is trying to pull guard but Kossu turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Boxaaja is trying to drag Kossu to the mat but Kossu just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Kossu swings wildly with an uppercut but Boxaaja uses good head movement to avoid it.
Kossu doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Boxaaja pulls guard successfully.

Boxaaja is looking for a triangle here but Kossu uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Boxaaja tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Kossu tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Boxaaja is trying to improve his position.
Kossu wants to stand but Boxaaja has his arm trapped.
Boxaaja is looking to regain half guard here but Kossu keeps moving and retains side control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Kossu stands up and beckons Boxaaja to his feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Boxaaja misses with a takedown
and Kossu counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Kossu lands with a hook. Boxaaja tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Boxaaja dives in and grabs Kossu's left leg, looking for a takedown. Kossu pushes down on Boxaaja's head and hops out.
A nice side step and Kossu releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

Boxaaja shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Kossu manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Kossu is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Boxaaja is controlling him.

Phol Boxaaja overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Boxaaja is looking to pass into half guard but Kossu pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Kossu is in guard.


Boxaaja has his foot on Kossu's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kossu works his way back into a safe position though.

Boxaaja throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Kossu escapes and throws Boxaaja's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Kossu decides to stand up, so the ref orders Boxaaja to his feet.
Kossu thumps Boxaaja with a low kick.
Kossu scores with a body shot.
Kossu swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Boxaaja.
Kossu missing with a left hand there. Boxaaja was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Phol Boxaaja seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Boxaaja throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kossu's waist but Kossu gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Boxaaja off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Phol Boxaaja. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Boxaaja shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kossu as he jumps to the side.
Boxaaja fails to land the takedown.

Boxaaja misses with a takedown attempt - Kossu sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Boxaaja shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Boxaaja showed some decent athleticism there.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Boxaaja is trying to work for a kimura but Kossu is defending well.
Kossu is looking to escape.

Boxaaja seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kossu does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Boxaaja stalling away here and it's allowed Kossu to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Kossu is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Boxaaja is controlling him.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Boxaaja is looking to advance position but Kossu has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Kossu wants to stand but Boxaaja is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.

Kalle Kossu showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Boxaaja tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Kossu defends well and Boxaaja ends up having to push Kossu into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Boxaaja jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Kossu walks away with a smile on his face. Boxaaja gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Horrible takedown attempt by Boxaaja or perhaps it was just good defense by Kossu, which made it look bad.

Boxaaja has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Kossu.

Boxaaja looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Kossu has picked Boxaaja up and slammed him! Boxaaja can't keep hold of the triangle and Kossu manages to pass to side control!
Boxaaja is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Kossu is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Kalle Kossu is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Kossu stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Kossu digs a good body shot into Boxaaja's ribs.
Boxaaja shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Kossu defends it nicely.
Kossu misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Boxaaja fails with the takedown.
Kossu lands a leg kick that knocks Boxaaja off balance momentarily.
Kossu fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Boxaaja manages to avoid it.
Kossu has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Boxaaja is landing a low percentage of strikes.

Kossu misses with a series of wild punches.
Boxaaja looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kossu is fending him off so far but Boxaaja persists. Nope, Kossu circles away and we're back to standing.

Kalle Kossu comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Kossu has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
