PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Yoshihiro Asai (ranked 1050 p4p, 1768 weight class) and Aleksey Viktorov (ranked 67 p4p, 113 weight class). Asai comes to the cage accompanied by Grand Sword. The crowd seem to be enjoying Viktorov's choice of entrance music: Lyube - Davay Za. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 38 - 24 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yoshihiro Asai !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Aleksey Viktorov!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Gwen Towbar and Stewart Dunkirk.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Asai lands a jab to Viktorov's midsection.
Asai smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Asai getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Both fighters circling a little - Asai finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.

Viktorov has Asai up against the cage in a clinch.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Viktorov has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Asai breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Nice defenses there by Viktorov.
Asai keeps the fight on the outside.

Viktorov takes the fight into the clinch.
Viktorov jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Asai walks away with a smile on his face. Viktorov gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Asai throws a nice outside leg kick.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Asai . Viktorov shrugs it off though.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Asai fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Viktorov.
Viktorov takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Asai stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Asai wants it to stay on the feet.

Viktorov drives through and clinches with Asai against the cage.
Asai tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Asai breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Asai goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Viktorov steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Asai .
Viktorov is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Asai fires out a quick counter leg kick but Viktorov just manages to avoid it.
Viktorov takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Viktorov drives through and clinches with Asai against the cage.
Asai throws an elbow that misses.

Viktorov jumps guard and drags Asai to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Viktorov looking for a guillotine here but Asai defends easily.

Viktorov is looking for a triangle but Asai pushes his legs off easily.
Asai showing good wrestling skills to control the position.

Asai avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Viktorov is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Asai is aware though and is defending well.
Asai has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Viktorov looking to hit a scissor sweep but Asai is one step ahead there.

Viktorov has his foot on Asai 's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Asai works his way back into a safe position though.

Viktorov is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Asai has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Viktorov to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Asai is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Viktorov pulls down on the head and he's put Asai to sleep! This one is all over!
