And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Riyu Mendes!
The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Payton throws a jab but it's blocked by Mendes.
Payton backing away here, and Mendes unleashes a leg kick that just misses.
Mendes throws a lazy head kick
and Payton cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Payton misses with a wild body shot.
Mendes ducks under a wild hook from Payton.
Mendes shapes to counter with a head kick.
Payton has been working on his boxing with his coaches at The Heart of the BloodBath in the buildup to the fight.
Payton closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Payton takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Mendes scores with a sloppy right hand. Payton should have avoided that one.

Mendes is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Payton to keep the fight standing.
A short body shot lands from Payton as the two fighters clinch.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Payton creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Payton digs a right hand into Mendes's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Mendes's gas tank.

Payton has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Mendes is proving hard to escape from.

Mendes is looking for a triangle but Payton pushes his legs off easily.
Payton gets to his feet. Mendes looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Mendes punishes Payton's body with a nice straight punch.

Mendes tries to clinch but Payton is having none of it.
Mendes throws a low kick but Payton avoids it.
Payton throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Walter Payton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Payton jabs Mendes to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Mendes tries to close the distance and clinch but Payton swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Payton cracks Mendes with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Payton has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Mendes to stand back up!
It looks like Riyu Mendes has been cut.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Mendes throws a low kick but Payton avoids it.
Mendes goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
A jab from Mendes misses.
Mendes throws a leg kick
and Payton counters with a crisp right that sends Mendes to the canvas! Payton follows up with punches from the mount and this one is all over!

Walter Payton decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
