Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Koos Van Asch (ranked 2205 p4p, 2147 weight class) and Curtis Rome (ranked 211 p4p, 208 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Koos Van Asch!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Curtis Rome!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Van Asch throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Rome misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Rome rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Van Asch counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Rome takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Van Asch looks to land a combination but Rome avoids it well.
Van Asch throws a sloppy head kick and Rome moves out of range easily.
Van Asch throws a jab when Rome was well out of range.
Van Asch throws a looping overhand right but Rome ducks down to avoid it.
Rome throws a wild body kick that Van Asch sees coming a mile off.
Curtis Rome seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Van Asch looks to land a right hand but Rome moved out of range.
Rome feints and then cracks Van Asch's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Van Asch down.
Rome scores with a jab to the head.
Van Asch scores with a hook to the body. Rome takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rome throws a left and a right that both miss
and Van Asch makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Rome looks to land a right hand but Van Asch moved out of range.
Van Asch uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Rome.
Koos Van Asch is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Rome lands a slapping body shot.
Rome connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Rome has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Rome throws a jab but it's blocked by Van Asch.

Rome clinches.
Van Asch lands with a short head shot on the inside.
I was talking to Van Asch's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
A head punch on the inside from Van Asch fails to land.
Van Asch lands with a left to the head.
Van Asch tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Van Asch tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Rome.

Rome is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Van Asch gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Van Asch misses with a punch on the inside.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Rome misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Van Asch throws a head punch that misses.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Van Asch stops a takedown attempt from Rome.
Van Asch lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Rome or not.
Van Asch tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Rome's elbow.
Rome changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Van Asch fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Koos Van Asch has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Curtis Rome.
Good exchange - Rome coming out on top.

Oooooh!!! Van Asch has knocked Rome down with a huge combo! Van Asch steps away and waves a wobbly Rome back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!

It looks like Curtis Rome has been cut.
Nice defenses there by Van Asch.
Van Asch was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Van Asch works Rome's body with a nice hook.
Van Asch throws a big shot that misses.
Van Asch scores with a nice strike.
Van Asch looks to land a left hand but Rome moved out of range nicely.
A shot to the body from Rome misses
and Van Asch counters with a perfectly timed head kick, knocking Rome out cold! Wow, that took some serious skill and not a little luck! Van Asch is taking it in his stride though, strolling around like it's no big deal. What a guy.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Koos Van Asch!
Koos Van Asch seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
