The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Writ shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Diaz defends it nicely.
Maverick Diaz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Writ throws out a loose jab but Diaz uses good head movement to avoid it.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Writ has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Diaz scores with a sloppy right hand. Writ should have avoided that one.
It looks like Gman Writ has been cut.
Diaz sends Writ crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Diaz is motioning to the referee to let Writ up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!
Diaz lands a big right hand that sends Writ crashing to the mat! Diaz stays standing though and waves Writ back to his feet!
