PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mysterious Mike (ranked 7011 p4p, 5440 weight class) and Earl Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mike has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Earl Walker has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mysterious Mike!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Earl Walker!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Colin Fray and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mike throws a head kick that misses

and Walker counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Walker in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Walker loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Walker slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Mike tries to strike from the bottom.
Walker is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Walker has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Walker cracks Mike with a solid left hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mike manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Walker manages to get himself to full guard.

Mike is breathing heavily.
Walker wants to stand and escape but Mike is having none of it.

Walker wants to hit a sweep here but Mike passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Walker there!
Walker is trying to escape the mount.
Walker wants to control but Mike is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Walker is trying desperately to improve position.
Walker gets back to half guard.

Mike is trying to control. Walker wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Walker makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Walker.
Walker looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Walker looking for a sweep. Not yet Walker, not yet.

Walker is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Well, if Walker is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
It looks like Walker might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Walker is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Mike defends it well.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Walker lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Walker perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Mike on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Walker controlling the action here.
Walker is trying to control the action in half guard but Mike is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Walker shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Mike counters with a nice body shot.
Walker has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Mike throws a head kick that misses.
Walker misses with a takedown attempt - Mike sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
No joy there for Walker, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Walker clinches up against the cage.

Walker turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Walker manages to end up in side control.

Mike bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Mike gets tackled into the cage by Walker. Walker maintains the clinch.
Walker misses with a hook from the clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Walker misses with a knee strike.

Walker breaks from the clinch.
Mike fails to land the takedown.
Walker keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Walker moves into the clinch.

Walker has clasped his hands together around Mike's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Mike tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.

Mike defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Walker.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Walker looking to control and managing it successfully.
Walker lands a couple of good shots and Mike has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
Walker lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Walker.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Walker is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Walker is riding his opponent, not letting Mike buck him off.

Mike trying to control the position but Walker manages to sink in the hooks.
Walker has good solid back control here.
Walker is continuing to stall.

Walker working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Mike is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Earl Walker has got the better of the ground game so far.

Walker patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?
What can Mike do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Earl Walker showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Walker closes the distance and clinches.
Walker tries a body shot but Mike blocks it.
Walker goes for a takedown in the clinch but Mike prevents it.

Walker drags the fight down to the ground.
Mike seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Walker working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mike doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mike manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Walker looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Walker doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Mike won't allow Walker to get back to his feet.
Walker is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Walker wants to sweep here but Mike controlling him for the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Mike dives in for a single leg takedown but Walker sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Walker breaks from the clinch.
Walker tries for a takedown but Mike sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Walker tries a low kick but Mike avoids it.
Mike seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Walker fails with the takedown
and Mike counters with a nice body shot.
Mysterious Mike has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Earl Walker.
Mike shoots for a takedown but Walker saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Walker shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Walker was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Walker is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Mike will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Mike can't do much from the bottom here.
Walker controlling the position.
Mike tries to buck Walker off but Walker is having none of it.
Walker is staying tight to Mike's torso, preventing him from escaping.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Walker has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Mike!
Walker lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Mike hang on?
Walker controlling the position easily from mount.
The referee warns Mike that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Walker lands with some strikes.
Mysterious Mike has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Earl Walker is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Earl Walker comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Walker has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
