PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Scully Peterson (ranked 5013 p4p, 5011 weight class) and Gus Tarbols (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Scully Peterson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Gus Tarbols!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Jeff Smith and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tarbols pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Peterson fails to land with a series of punches.
Peterson displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Tarbols.
Tarbols throws a head kick that misses.
Peterson keeps the fight on the outside.
Peterson misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Tarbols tries to clinch there but Peterson circles away.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Tarbols.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Tarbols is looking to stand back up but Peterson counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Tarbols.
Scully Peterson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gus Tarbols.

Tarbols slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Tarbols had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Peterson defends it easily.

Peterson thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Tarbols looking to control.
Peterson slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Peterson postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Peterson sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Tarbols's guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Peterson in particular looking to stall.

Tarbols wants to control but Peterson is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Horrible takedown attempt by Tarbols or perhaps it was just good defense by Peterson, which made it look bad.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Peterson.
You can see the frustration on Tarbols's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Tarbols gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Peterson lands a big shot there that rocks Tarbols but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Peterson can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Tarbols is looking to escape.

Tarbols tries to score a power double leg takedown but Peterson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Tarbols somewhat.

Tarbols tries to pull guard but Peterson won't allow it.
Scully Peterson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gus Tarbols.
Peterson has Tarbols pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Tarbols manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Peterson escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Peterson tries to bum rush Tarbols with a series of wild strikes but Tarbols uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Peterson fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Tarbols sprawls well initially but Peterson persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Peterson lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Peterson is pressing down on Tarbols's thigh, looking to free his foot. Tarbols is holding on for now.
Tarbols is trying to control but can't.
Tarbols is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Peterson is staying active.
Peterson working over Tarbols with some ground and pound. Tarbols looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Peterson takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Peterson is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Tarbols doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Peterson.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Peterson is looking to take a break and control but Tarbols is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
It looks like Peterson is going to stand back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Peterson closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Tarbols bucks up and tries to throw Peterson off but instead Peterson has got his back!
Scully Peterson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Peterson lands shots from the back.
Peterson biding his time, looking for the opening.
Peterson throwing damaging strikes from the back! Tarbols could be in trouble here!
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Peterson is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Tarbols can do to turn this around?
Tarbols tries to roll but Peterson sticks to his back.

Watch the back of the head! Comes the shout from the referee towards Peterson.

Peterson is looking for the choke from the back position but Tarbols is controlling his hands well.
Peterson is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Peterson doesn't have the hooks in and Tarbols manages to turn into his guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

and Peterson counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Tarbols wants to stand but Peterson is controlling the position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Tarbols might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Peterson haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Peterson tries to free his leg and advance position but Tarbols is retaining full guard.

Tarbols tries to escape but Peterson is in control.
Peterson lands a nice forearm strike.

Peterson manages to reverse the position and now he's in Tarbols's guard. Nice work there by Peterson.
Peterson wants to stand but Tarbols is controlling his posture from full guard.
Peterson seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Peterson is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Gus Tarbols has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Scully Peterson is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Tarbols thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Scully Peterson showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Peterson has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
