PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ideres Barker (ranked 5914 p4p, 4736 weight class) and Ihno Tongauani (ranked 0 p4p, 565 weight class). Barker has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Ihno Tongauani told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ideres Barker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ihno Tongauani!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Chris Downing and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tongauani shoots in looking for a takedown. Barker tries to sprawl out of it but Tongauani keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Barker manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Barker scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Barker looks to land a combination but Tongauani avoids it well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

enabling Barker to counter with a crisp jab.
Tongauani fails with a takedown attempt.
Ideres Barker has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ihno Tongauani.
That's one minute gone in the round.
A momentary lapse in concentration from Barker enables Tongauani to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Barker manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Barker is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Tongauani dives into side control.
Barker is trying to get back to half guard.
Tongauani is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Barker's shoulder. That is not cool.
Tongauani trying to control the action but Barker is working from the bottom.
Barker on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Barker tries to get out of the position.
Tongauani remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Barker is not content to let Tongauani control the position.
Barker knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Tongauani on the ground.
Tongauani passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Barker!
Tongauani gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
Barker is breathing heavily.
Tongauani fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Barker throws a body shot but no joy.
Tongauani is looking for the big counter here.

so Tongauani counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Barker is looking to stand back up but Tongauani counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Barker.
Tongauani seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Barker is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Ihno Tongauani!
