PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Arturo Caldeira (ranked 2178 p4p, 2536 weight class) and Chakrii Weecharangsan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Weecharangsan has chosen Sarama as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Arturo Caldeira!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chakrii Weecharangsan!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Alan Glass and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Weecharangsan tries for a takedown but Caldeira circles away easily
and Caldeira connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Caldeira cracks Weecharangsan with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Weecharangsan tries for a takedown but Caldeira sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
A counter left hand to the body from Caldeira misses its target.
Caldeira stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Caldeira stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Caldeira wants it to stay on the feet.
Arturo Caldeira has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chakrii Weecharangsan.
Weecharangsan takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Caldeira connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Weecharangsan's hands.
Caldeira lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Weecharangsan moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Caldeira leaves Weecharangsan with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Caldeira closes the distance and clinches.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Weecharangsan has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Caldeira is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Weecharangsan tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Caldeira smiles and moves away.
A shot to the liver by Caldeira. Beautiful body shot.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Caldeira, as that shot connected.
It looks like Caldeira has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Weecharangsan on the wrong end of a nice hook.

Caldeira tries to keep at a distance but Weecharangsan has taken the fight into the clinch.
A battle for position here, against the cage.

Caldeira breaks from the clinch.

Weecharangsan bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Caldeira tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Weecharangsan wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Caldeira is trying to control Weecharangsan's posture but Weecharangsan avoids it.

Weecharangsan tries for a kimura but Caldeira is defending well.
Caldeira is looking to regain half guard here but Weecharangsan keeps moving and retains side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Caldeira wants to control but Weecharangsan postures up.
Caldeira tries to buck Weecharangsan off but Weecharangsan is having none of it.
Caldeira gets back to half guard.
Weecharangsan stalling.
Caldeira makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Caldeira.
Caldeira controlling the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Weecharangsan is looking to work some ground and pound but Caldeira has wrist control.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Caldeira looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Caldeira escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Weecharangsan gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Caldeira looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Weecharangsan is fighting to break Caldeira's control of his arms but Caldeira is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Weecharangsan trying to control but Caldeira is working from the bottom.

Caldeira working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Weecharangsan doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Caldeira is tightening it up a little... Weecharangsan has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Weecharangsan reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Weecharangsan taps out! Nice BJJ there by Caldeira!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Arturo Caldeira!
During a confident post fight interview, Arturo Caldeira thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
