PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jim Butter (ranked 24082 p4p, 5725 weight class) and Daniel Rydel (ranked 809 p4p, 662 weight class). Rydel has chosen Discoland Flex as his entrance music. Daniel Rydel looks lathargic as he enters the arena. Wake up son, you're about to have a fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jim Butter !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Daniel Rydel!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Cecil Peabody and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rydel pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Butter throws a big counter combination but Rydel scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Butter avoids the head kick by Rydel.

Rydel clinches up against the cage.
Rydel has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Butter avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Rydel breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Butter tries to sprawl but Rydel drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Butter trying to control but Rydel postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Butter actively working from the bottom here.
Butter is trying to control but Rydel passes into side control!

Rydel wants to stand but Butter has his arm trapped.
Butter tries to buck Rydel off but Rydel is having none of it.

Butter tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Rydel easily slips into full mount!
Butter is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Rydel landing strikes, looking to finish!

Rydel avoids the attempt from Butter to control.

Rydel goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Butter is on top in guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Rydel can do anything to dispel that myth.
Rydel is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Butter wants to control from the top but Rydel keeps moving.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rydel is controlling Butter 's posture.
Butter passes Rydel's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Butter is thwarting Rydel's attempts to control the position.
Rydel is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Butter 's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Butter 's back!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Rydel is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Butter defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Butter knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rydel on the ground.
Butter can't escape the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Daniel Rydel dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Butter tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Rydel is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
We've been informed that Rydel has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Butter looks for a takedown but Rydel sprawls well.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Butter .
Butter has a takedown stuffed.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jim Butter . That's going to take a lot out of him.

Rydel darts in and clinches Butter up against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rydel putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Butter in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.

Butter decides to pull guard.

Butter manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Rydel escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Rydel moves into the clinch.

Rydel pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Rydel shoots in but no luck this time.
Rydel tries to clinch but Butter moves away
and Butter counters with a left and a right that stings Rydel.
Rydel is breathing heavily.
Rydel is trying hard to land a takedown here. Butter sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Butter tries to score a power double leg takedown but Rydel sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Butter somewhat.
Butter is looking to clinch but Rydel is avoiding it.
Rydel throws a counter combo.

Butter fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Rydel to the ground. Butter is now in Rydel's guard.
Butter wants to control from the top but Rydel keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Butter working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Butter tries to free his leg and advance position but Rydel is retaining full guard.
Butter trying to stand up but can't free himself from Rydel's guard.

Butter postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Rydel is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Butter , into his guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Rydel engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Rydel stands and throws Butter 's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Butter is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Rydel wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Butter , who protects the arm well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Rydel controlling the position.
Butter is trying to control Rydel's posture but Rydel avoids it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Butter seems a little lost for a moment, as Rydel dominates the positioning.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Daniel Rydel will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Rydel moves into the clinch successfully.
Butter is trying to break the clinch but Rydel has him pressed against the cage.
Butter misses with a knee to the head.
Butter jumps guard but Rydel turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Butter is looking to take this one to the mat.

Butter is trying to push Rydel away but Rydel has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Jim Butter is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Butter shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Rydel pinned against the cage. Rydel gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Rydel rushes Butter and presses him up against the cage.
Rydel tries to pull guard but Butter forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Rydel successfully pulls guard.
Rydel tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rydel had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Butter defends it easily.

Rydel wants to improve his position but instead Butter has moved into half guard.
Butter is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Butter wants to free his trapped foot but Rydel is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Butter scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Butter wants to stand but Rydel has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Rydel makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Rydel.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Butter stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rydel swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Rydel has his foot on Butter 's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Butter works his way back into a safe position though.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Butter is really struggling to control Rydel but he's trying to hold on to the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Daniel Rydel comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Rydel has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
