PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Joaud Kaowd (ranked 4682 p4p, 4624 weight class) and Adam Gibson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joaud Kaowd!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Adam Gibson!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Dean Styles and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kaowd wants to slow Gibson down by chopping away at his legs.

Kaowd clinches up with Gibson and pushes him back against the cage.
Gibson should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Gibson on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Gibson gets control of Kaowd's arms and successfully pulls guard. Gibson will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Kaowd stands and steps away. Gibson gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Kaowd misses with a few strikes there.
Gibson shoots in but no luck this time.

Kaowd fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Gibson, pushing him back against the cage.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Gibson has eaten all the pies!

Gibson pulls guard effortlessly.
Kaowd will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Gibson trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gibson looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kaowd is one step ahead there.
Kaowd really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Kaowd got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gibson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kaowd has managed to get both his arms back between Gibson's legs - danger averted.

Kaowd stands up from Gibson's guard - Kaowd perhaps looking for a knockout.
Kaowd throws a head kick but Gibson moves out of range.

Kaowd clinches up against the cage.

Kaowd has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Gibson clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Gibson is trying escape back to his feet. He turns into his opponent's guard and eventually finds his way back to his feet.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Gibson stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Gibson shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kaowd as he jumps to the side.

Kaowd drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Gibson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kaowd defends it easily.
Kaowd tries to free his leg and advance position but Gibson is retaining full guard.
Kaowd is working Gibson over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Kaowd trying to control the position from guard on top but Gibson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Gibson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kaowd can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Kaowd gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Kaowd throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Gibson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Kaowd shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Gibson manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Kaowd passes Gibson's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Gibson trying to hold on to Kaowd's head to control him but Kaowd postures up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Kaowd closes the distance and pushes Gibson back into the cage.

Kaowd has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Gibson is trying to keep an underhook but Kaowd manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Gibson pushes Kaowd off but Kaowd dives into side control.

Kaowd looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Kaowd wants to control but Gibson is keeping him busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kaowd decides to take the fight back to the feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Some wild striking there from Gibson.
Kaowd is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Gibson can do to turn this around?

Kaowd dives in and scores a takedown into Gibson's guard.

Gibson is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Gibson will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Kaowd up against the cage.
Kaowd struggles to land a body shot inside as Gibson controls his hands.

Kaowd pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Joaud Kaowd is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Gibson throws a head kick that misses.
Sloppy strikes from Gibson. Those never looked like landing.

Gibson pushes Kaowd up against the cage in a clinch.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kaowd stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kaowd wants it to stay on the feet.
Kaowd stuffs the takedown attempt from Gibson. Gibson gets slowly back to his feet.
Gibson is breathing heavily.

Kaowd shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Kaowd was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Gibson bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

Kaowd throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Gibson tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Kaowd is in Gibson's guard.

Kaowd wants to pass the guard but Gibson is keeping the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kaowd trying to control the position from guard on top but Gibson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Gibson is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Gibson pulls Kaowd in close to prevent any damage.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Kaowd tries to free his leg and advance position but Gibson is retaining full guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Kaowd stays in close to Gibson's body and controls the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Gibson looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kaowd is fending him off so far but Gibson persists. Nope, Kaowd circles away and we're back to standing.
Joaud Kaowd has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Adam Gibson.

Kaowd closes the distance and pushes Gibson back into the cage.
Gibson wants to take the fight to the mat but Kaowd manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Adam Gibson has got the better of the ground game so far.
Kaowd manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Gibson manages to get himself to full guard.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Joaud Kaowd will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Kaowd closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Gibson's guard.
Kaowd lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gibson is on top in guard.

Gibson takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Gibson tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Kaowd defends well and Gibson ends up having to push Kaowd into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Gibson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Kaowd shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Kaowd showed some decent athleticism there.

Gibson has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Kaowd is on him like a limpet, forcing Gibson back against the cage.

Kaowd is trying to trip Gibson. He has hold of a leg but Gibson is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Kaowd persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Gibson is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Kaowd presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Gibson slips nicely into half guard.

Gibson escapes and gets back to his feet.

Gibson forces Kaowd back against the cage and clinches.
Kaowd gets underhooks to prevent Gibson's takedown attempt.

Kaowd has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Gibson uses from the top position.
Kaowd is trying to keep Gibson in close.
Gibson slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Gibson is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Gibson looking to sit in guard and control but Kaowd gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Gibson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Gibson will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

I would just about give that final round to Adam Gibson.
I think Kaowd has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
