PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jay Porter (ranked 5328 p4p, 3785 weight class) and Dorian Swathe (ranked 597 p4p, 463 weight class). Dorian Swathe told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jay Porter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dorian Swathe!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Sam Margolis and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Porter circles away from the clinch attempt.
Porter throws a head kick but Swathe moves out of range.
Porter throws a lazy right hand but Swathe sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Porter rushes Swathe and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Swathe jumps into guard, dragging Porter to the mat.

Porter wanted to stand there but Swathe had control of the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Swathe looking for a guillotine here but Porter defends easily.

Swathe throws his legs up looking for a submission but Porter uses it to pass to side control.

Porter decides to stand back up. Porter steps back and let's Swathe get back to his feet.
Porter defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Swathe.
Swathe on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Porter. Porter obviously looking to wear him down.

Porter throws a series of punches but Swathe avoids them all with ease.

Porter throws a nice looking combination but Swathe bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Swathe with the counter takedown but Porter avoids it easily.

Porter drops Swathe with a left and a right! Oh, Swathe is hurt - Porter dives into side control looking to finish!

It looks like Dorian Swathe has been cut.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Swathe looks to move to half guard but instead Porter has passed into mount! Damn!

Swathe wants to hold on but Porter pushes him away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Porter takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Swathe is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Swathe keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Swathe is wriggling around trying to escape.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Swathe drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Porter gets the underhooks and prevents it.

We've been informed that Swathe has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Porter remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Swathe is still in real trouble! Can Porter finish him?

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Swathe lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Swathe looks for a takedown but Porter sprawls well.

Porter shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Swathe manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Porter has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Porter would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Porter stands and steps away. Swathe gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Well Porter has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
