PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Craig Kraig (ranked 2215 p4p, 6482 weight class) and Roddy Richards (ranked 295 p4p, 688 weight class). Craig Kraig had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Craig Kraig!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Roddy Richards!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Ron Honeybunn and Darius Henderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kraig closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Kraig working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Kraig lands strikes from half guard.
Kraig looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Richards with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Ground and pound from Kraig.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Kraig lands a nice short elbow.
Kraig looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Richards makes his way to full guard, as Kraig worked for a kimura.
Kraig knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Richards on the ground.
Kraig cracks Richards with a solid left hand.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Richards wants to stand up but Kraig is controlling him.

Richards pushes Kraig off and gets back to his feet.
Richards darts in looking for a takedown but Kraig gets double underhooks and turns Richards into the cage.
Kraig fails to land the takedown.
Richards lands an overhand right.
Richards pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Sloppy strikes from Richards. Those never looked like landing.
Kraig blocks a head kick by Richards.
Richards misses with a kick to the body.

Kraig shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Kraig was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Richards throws Kraig to one side and escapes!

This has been an exciting period of action!
No luck for Kraig with that takedown attempt.
Richards misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Richards lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Kraig circles away quickly and effectively.
Kraig checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.

and Kraig decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Richards's guard.

Kraig is looking to pass into half guard but Richards pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Richards is in guard.

Richards would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Kraig is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Kraig pulls Richards in close to prevent any damage.
Richards trying to control but Kraig is working from the bottom.
Kraig wants to stand up but Richards is controlling him.
Kraig seems keen to control Richards's posture.
Richards has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Kraig is proving hard to escape from.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Richards wants to control from the top but Kraig keeps moving.

Richards decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Kraig avoids the head kick by Richards.
Kraig fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Despite the aggression on Richards's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Craig Kraig. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Richards shoots in but no luck this time.
Kraig avoids the head kick by Richards.
Richards shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Kraig defends it nicely.
Kraig looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Kraig fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Richards is out of range.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

and Kraig counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Kraig.

Richards manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Kraig is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Richards pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Kraig tries to pull guard but Richards holds him up against the cage and eventually Kraig drops back down to his feet.
Kraig has Richards pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Richards manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Kraig prevents Richards from breaking the clinch.
Kraig tries to score a body lock takedown but Richards shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Richards shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kraig sprawls well. Kraig wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Richards gets slowly back to his feet.

Richards fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Kraig forces Richards back against the cage and clinches.

Richards pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Kraig fails to land the takedown.
Richards shoots in but Kraig avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Kraig drops down looking for a counter takedown but Richards sprawls and moves away.
Richards tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Kraig looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Richards with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Kraig seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Richards does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Craig Kraig overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kraig lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Richards is not content to let Kraig control the position.
Kraig takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Kraig seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

That was a close second round but I would say that Craig Kraig will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Richards is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Kraig presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Richards changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kraig tries to avoid it but Richards manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kraig to the ground. Kraig escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
