PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Robert Frost (ranked 3252 p4p, 3393 weight class) and Jesse Turner (ranked 148 p4p, 156 weight class). Frost's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, SETH ECT - B.L.A.S.T. Jesse Turner will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Robert Frost!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jesse Turner!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, David Schapiro and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Frost will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Turner is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Turner scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
No luck for Frost with that takedown attempt.
Turner misses with a two punch combination.
Turner fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Frost fails in his attempt to clinch.
Frost moves to clinch but Turner breaks away
and Turner counters with a left to the body.
Frost shoots in for a double leg but Turner sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Robert Frost. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Turner tries to bum rush Frost with a series of wild strikes but Frost uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Turner has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Robert Frost seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

As Turner looks to move away, Frost throws a big counter combo but Turner just gets out of the way.
Frost changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Turner tries to avoid it but Frost manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Turner to the ground. Turner escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Turner is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Turner punishes Frost's body with a nice straight punch.

Frost shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Frost scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Frost is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Turner doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Frost.
Frost is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Frost has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Frost has picked Turner up - he's going for a ride! Frost dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Turner wants to get back to his feet.

Frost is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Turner can do anything to dispel that myth.

Turner is defending against the submission attempts here by Frost.

Frost seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Frost lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Frost drops an elbow to the side of Turner's head.
Turner really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Frost. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Turner kicks Frost off and gets back to his feet.
Frost shoots in but Turner avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Turner looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Frost closes the distance and pushes Turner back into the cage.

Frost wants a takedown.
Knees to the body from Frost.
Frost keeps control of Turner as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Turner has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Frost tries a knee to the head but Turner blocks it.

Turner blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Turner tries to break the clinch but Frost is controlling the position.

Frost is struggling to control the position.
Frost's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with Frost for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure.
Frost has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Turner after a bit of a struggle.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jesse Turner will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Turner swats away the attempt to clinch by Frost.
Turner ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Frost moves away.
Turner misses with a series of wild punches.
Turner connects with a body shot.
Frost throws a series of punches but Turner avoids them all with ease.
A head kick misses from Frost.
A swing and a miss from Turner.
Turner pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Frost back to the cage. Turner follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Turner just misses with a punch to the body.
Frost tries for a takedown but Turner sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Turner thuds a left hand into Frost's body.
Frost fails with the takedown
and Turner cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Turner is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Frost rather than just go for the knockout.
Frost shoots in looking for a takedown but Turner manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Frost's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

A decent looking cross lands there for Turner.

Turner bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Frost has his hands clasped together around Turner's back. He's all about the action.
Frost regains full guard. Nicely done.

We've been hearing that Frost has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Frost takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Jesse Turner showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Frost tries to free his leg and advance position but Turner is retaining full guard.
Frost with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Frost drops back, looking for a kneebar! Turner looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Turner looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Turner!

Turner looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.

Frost tries to close the distance and clinch but Turner swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Frost decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Turner kicks Frost off and gets back to his feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Turner enables Frost to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Turner manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Frost looking to sit in guard and control but Turner gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Turner throws a big elbow that misses.

Robert Frost overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Turner is fighting to break Frost's control of his arms but Frost is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Frost manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Turner manages to get himself to full guard.

Frost keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Turner's head.
Frost might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Frost is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Turner wants to stand but Frost is controlling the position.
Robert Frost has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jesse Turner is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Frost working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Turner's head.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Robert Frost.
I think Turner has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
