Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Newton Diaz (ranked 4200 p4p, 24571 weight class) and Cranjis Mcbasketball (ranked 492 p4p, 714 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Newton Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cranjis Mcbasketball!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Igor Prikhodko and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Mcbasketball.
Diaz looks to move to half guard but instead Mcbasketball has passed into mount! Damn!
Mcbasketball prevents Diaz from getting the reversal.
Mcbasketball is landing with some decent strikes but Diaz is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Mcbasketball has hold of Diaz's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Diaz manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Mcbasketball avoids the attempt from Diaz to control.

Mcbasketball looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Diaz is desperately trying to improve his position but Mcbasketball has a good base and remains in mount.
Diaz sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Diaz is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
My spies in EFC Gym inform me that Mcbasketball has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Mcbasketball connects with a nice short shot to Diaz's temple.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Mcbasketball winds up and cracks Diaz with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Diaz is looking to improve his position but Mcbasketball isn't that keen on the idea.
Diaz wants to control but Mcbasketball is having none of it.

Mcbasketball is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Diaz is surviving well by controlling Mcbasketball's body position as best he can.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Diaz has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Mcbasketball can't keep his opponent in guard - Diaz advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Mcbasketball is looking for a sweep. Diaz is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Diaz is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Diaz is pressing down on Mcbasketball's thigh, looking to free his foot. Mcbasketball is holding on for now.

Diaz is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Mcbasketball defends it well.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Diaz wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mcbasketball keeps working.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Diaz looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Diaz wants to take a breather but Mcbasketball is having none of it.
Diaz is stalling here. Mcbasketball is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Diaz seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Mcbasketball has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Mcbasketball enables Diaz to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mcbasketball manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
