PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Peetu Tam (ranked 2019 p4p, 3661 weight class) and Nario Gwan (ranked 74 p4p, 154 weight class). Peetu Tam could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Nario Gwan's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Peetu Tam!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nario Gwan!
The judges for this bout are Ron Honeybunn, Donatello Bradman and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gwan digs a good hook to Tam's body.
Tam slaps away a takedown attempt from Gwan, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Tam tried to counter with a leg kick but Gwan avoided it.
Gwan shoots for a double leg takedown but Tam sprawls well. He's pushed Gwan's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Tam closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Gwan quickly recovers to half guard.
Tam lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Gwan blocking the ground and pound attempt from Tam.
Tam slows the pace down in half guard.
Gwan tries to roll over but Tam keeps him under control.
Tam will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tam is controlling the pace.
Gwan wants to control but Tam is keeping busy.

Well, if Tam is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Tam wants to pass to mount but Gwan is defending the position.
Ground and pound from Tam.
Gwan tries to get to full guard but Tam has control of the leg.
Gwan is not content to let Tam control the position.
Tam is thwarting Gwan's attempts to control the position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Tam looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Gwan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Tam. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Tam thows a huge punch but Gwan dodges it nicely.

Tam is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Gwan tries to roll over but Tam keeps him under control.

Tam has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Gwan wants to improve his position but Tam is controlling well.
Tam perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Tam wants to free his trapped foot but Gwan is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Tam lands a nice short elbow.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Tam connects with a nice short shot to Gwan's temple.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Tam not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Tam missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Gwan tries to roll over but Tam keeps him under control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Peetu Tam dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Gwan has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Tam.
Tam throws a nice outside leg kick.
Gwan shoots in looking for a takedown but Tam manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Gwan's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Tam looks to score with a jab to the body but Gwan is just out of range.
Gwan on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Gwan tries to clinch but Tam moves out of range.
Tam connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Nario Gwan is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Tam goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Tam cracks a nice hook into Gwan's ribs.
Tam takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Tam throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gwan doesn't manage to clinch there - Tam circles away.
Tam is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Gwan can do to turn this around?

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Gwan.
Gwan tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

A low kick lands for Tam.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Gwan!

It looks like Peetu Tam has been cut.
Gwan scores with a shot to the body.
Tam shoots in but Gwan avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Tam throws the left hand but Gwan avoids the punch easily.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Gwan.

Tam darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Tam is nestled in close to Gwan, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Tam keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Tam has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Gwan is looking to improve his position.
Tam seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Gwan does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Tam prevents Gwan from improving his position.
Tam is keen to just control but Gwan is a slippery customer.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tam is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Gwan is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Tam thows a huge punch but Gwan dodges it nicely.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gwan can do anything to dispel that myth.
Tam takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Tam is trying to control the action in half guard but Gwan is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Still in half guard, Tam seems content to control.
Tam frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Tam landing strikes from the mount and Gwan is in trouble!
Tam loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have Gwan scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Tam land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Tam stands and salutes the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:34 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Peetu Tam!
A very excited looking Peetu Tam made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
