Aldo comes to the cage accompanied by The Foggy Dew. River has chosen Gabon National Anthem as his entrance music. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Conor Aldo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Guy River!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Ben Hemmingworth and Francis DeMontford.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
River connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
River scores with a crisp jab that stopped Aldo in his tracks.
Aldo on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Aldo tries a head kick but it misses.
River is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from River.
Aldo tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but River was well out of range. Poor timing from Aldo.
Aldo throws a combination that misses
and River counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Aldo thinking.
We've been informed that River has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
River misses with a straight left.
River takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
River tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Aldo paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Aldo thows a left - swing and a miss!
River digs a good hook to Aldo's body.
River throws a low kick, looking for Aldo's leg but Aldo calmly moves out of range.
A little feinted left hand from Aldo on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
River misses with a head kick.

River fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Aldo manages to avoid it.
Aldo appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.

We've been told by Aldo's head coaches at High Kicks that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

River tries to close the distance and clinch but Aldo swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
River throws a body kick that misses.
River jabs at Aldo's body.
River moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
The fight stays on the outside here - River looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Aldo really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

River throws a series of punches but Aldo avoids them all with ease.
River takes a swing at Aldo's ribcage but misses.

A head kick by River misses
and Aldo counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Aldo pulls out of a head kick attempt.
River throws a head kick but Aldo moves out of range.
Aldo swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.

River fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Aldo, pushing him back against the cage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Aldo breaks from the clinch.
River throws a chopping leg kick but Aldo manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
River lands with a right hand.
Nice straight punches there by Aldo. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Aldo.
River connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Aldo's hands.

Aldo is rocked!

It looks like Conor Aldo has been cut.
Aldo walks right into a perfectly timed right hook and goes down hard! He's out cold! The ref cradles Aldo limp body while River jumps on to the cage and waves to the roaring crowd. Wow that was just a brutal knockout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Guy River!
In defeat, Conor Aldo stepped up to the mic, saying 'I stormed in and put it all on the line. I took a shot and missed. I will never apologize for taking a shot. Shit happens.'.
