PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between John Patill (ranked 1316 p4p, 4051 weight class) and Perdue Willshire (ranked 155 p4p, 349 weight class). Patill comes to the cage accompanied by Soldiers eyes. Perdue Willshire will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, John Patill!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 25 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Perdue Willshire!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Albert Achterberg and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Willshire misses with a double jab.
Willshire looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Patill is fending him off so far but Willshire persists. Nope, Patill circles away and we're back to standing.
Patill looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Willshire has closed the distance and engaged Patill in a clinch.
Willshire tries for a takedown. No joy.

Patill works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Willshire scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Patill closes the distance and clinches.
Willshire tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Willshire has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Patill is working away from the top position though.

Patill seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Willshire for as long as he can get away with.

Willshire's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Willshire felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Patill has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Willshire is not content to let Patill control the position.
The referee asks Patill politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Patill prefers to stall for the moment though.
Willshire is looking to get back to his feet here but Patill is keeping cool and he's managed to take Willshire's back.

What can Willshire do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Willshire really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Patill. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Patill drives through with a takedown into Willshire's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Patill gets control of Willshire's arms and successfully pulls guard. Patill will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Patill is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Willshire has his hands clasped together around Patill's back. He's all about the action.
Patill seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Patill slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Patill, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
