PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Eliott Leighton (ranked 3319 p4p, 2319 weight class) and Abraham Alcantara (ranked 422 p4p, 300 weight class). Leighton comes to the cage accompanied by Bad to the Bone - George Thorogood. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 18 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Eliott Leighton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Abraham Alcantara!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Stewart Dunkirk and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Alcantara lands a jab to the head.
Alcantara misses with a looping left.
Leighton shoots in for a double leg but Alcantara sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Leighton shoots in but Alcantara avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Alcantara feints the counter takedown.
A slow jab from Alcantara misses its intended target.
Leighton appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Leighton avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Alcantara has managed to clinch.

Alcantara swings wildly with an uppercut but Leighton uses good head movement to avoid it.

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Leighton is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Alcantara defends it well.
Leighton will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Alcantara is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Leighton drops back, looking for a kneebar! Alcantara looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Alcantara looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Alcantara!

Alcantara creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Leighton sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Alcantara throwing strikes but Leighton manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!

Leighton swings around for an armbar but Alcantara sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Leighton's guard.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Alcantara got a little sloppy there for a moment and Leighton has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Alcantara has managed to get both his arms back between Leighton's legs - danger averted.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Leighton shoots in and drives through. Alcantara sprawls well.
Alcantara looks to land a left hand but Leighton moved out of range nicely.

Leighton takes a knee to the side of the body.
Leighton goes for a takedown attempt but Alcantara pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Alcantara clinches up with Leighton and pushes him back against the cage.

A short body shot lands from Leighton as the two fighters clinch.

Leighton manages to break the clinch.
The fighters circling - Alcantara throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Leighton fails with a takedown attempt.
Alcantara throws a body punch but Leighton moves out of range.
Leighton changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Alcantara throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Leighton attempts a counter takedown but Alcantara avoids it well and moves away.

It seemed like Alcantara was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Alcantara throws a hook to the side of Leighton's head but Leighton sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Alcantara throws a looping overhand right but Leighton ducks down to avoid it.
Alcantara fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Nice takedown defense from Alcantara. No joy for Leighton on that attempt.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Abraham Alcantara showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Alcantara drops Leighton with a right and a left! Alcantara comes rushing in but Leighton regains his composure and manages to keep Alcantara in guard.

It looks like Eliott Leighton has been cut.
Alcantara looking to sit in guard and control but Leighton gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Alcantara wants to stand but Leighton is controlling the position.

Alcantara controls Leighton momentarily but Leighton frees himself.
Alcantara keeping moving, preventing Leighton from controlling successfully.
Leighton is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Alcantara bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Leighton's guard.


Leighton is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Alcantara rolls with it to try and escape but Leighton cranks on the arm and Alcantara is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:29 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Eliott Leighton!
Eliott Leighton seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
