PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Batang Kock (ranked 2080 p4p, 2384 weight class) and Snapple Grapple (ranked 218 p4p, 245 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Batang Kock!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Snapple Grapple!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Gwen Towbar and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kock lands with a thumping leg kick.
Kock leaves Grapple with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Snapple Grapple seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Grapple looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kock is fending him off so far but Grapple persists. Nope, Kock circles away and we're back to standing.
Grapple uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Kock.
Grapple tries to close the distance and clinch up but Kock swats him away and circles back towards the center.
As Grapple looks to move away, Kock throws a big counter combo but Grapple just gets out of the way.
Kock throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Grapple.
Kock misses with a straight right.
Kock thows a left - swing and a miss!
Grapple fails with an attempt to clinch.
Grapple shoots for a double leg takedown but Kock sprawls well. He's pushed Grapple's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Batang Kock has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Snapple Grapple.
Grapple throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Grapple tries to clinch but Kock moves away
and Kock counters with a stiff right hand.
Grapple slips a jab and a cross from Kock.

Kock gets tackled into the cage by Grapple. Grapple maintains the clinch.

Grapple pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Grapple shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Kock misses with a straight right.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Grapple throws the left hand but Kock avoids the punch easily.
Grapple missing with a left hand there. Kock was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Kock feinted there with a counter leg kick.
Kock pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Grapple with the counter takedown but Kock avoids it easily.
Grapple moves in looking to clinch but Kock pushes him off.
Grapple has a takedown stuffed.
Grapple tries to close the distance and clinch but Kock swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Grapple has closed the distance and engaged Kock in a clinch.
Grapple tries to stall but Kock uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Kock manages to break the clinch.
Grapple fails in his attempt to clinch.
Grapple misses with a lunging right hand
and Kock counters with a left and a right that stings Grapple.
Grapple rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
letting Kock counter with a right hand.
Grapple has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Grapple looks to score with a jab to the body but Kock is just out of range.
Grapple has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
This has been an exciting period of action!
A nice leg kick from Kock, right into the meat of the thigh.

Grapple gets a takedown into half guard.
Kock keeping hold of Grapple's head, controlling as best he can.

Grapple is working for a kimura but Kock is defending it quite comfortably.
Grapple is trying to control. Kock wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Grapple is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Grapple seems to be working for a kimura but Kock defends the submission attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Grapple throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Kock keeping control of the position.
Kock wants to control but Grapple is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Kock might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Grapple lands a nice short elbow.
Kock is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Kock has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Grapple is working away from the top position though.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Kock avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Grapple.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Grapple lands a nice short elbow.
Kock has hold of Grapple's hands but Grapple slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Grapple is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Kock defends it well.

Kock is defending against the submission attempts here by Grapple.
Kock is looking to improve his position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Batang Kock dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Kock lands a lovely overhand right.

Grapple closes the distance and clinches.
Grapple jumps guard but Kock stands there with Grapple around his waist. Grapple gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Kock lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Grapple has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Kock avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Grapple can't get the takedown.
Batang Kock has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Snapple Grapple.
Grapple drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Kock gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Our sources have told us that Kock has been working on his knees in the buildup to the fight.
Grapple has Kock pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Kock manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kock throws a looping overhand right but Grapple ducks down to avoid it.
Grapple tries to close the distance and clinch up but Kock swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Batang Kock is winning the standup battle so far.
Grapple is looking to clinch.
Kock connects with a body shot.

Kock moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Grapple misses with a takedown attempt
and Kock counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Grapple tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kock sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Grapple somewhat.
Grapple bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Grapple shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kock as he jumps to the side.
Kock throwing a counter right hand but Grapple manages to avoid it.
Kock slaps away a takedown attempt from Grapple, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Grapple tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Kock counters with a nice uppercut.
Grapple fails to land the takedown.
Kock cracks Grapple with a right hand to the side of the head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kock ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Grapple takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Kock throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Grapple changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Kock dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Grapple. That did some damage!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Kock uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Grapple.

Grapple ducks under a wild hook from Kock.
Grapple tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

A jab lands there for Kock.
Kock throws a jab but it's blocked by Grapple.
Kock circles away from the clinch attempt
and Kock counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Grapple thows a left - swing and a miss!

and Kock counters with a straight right hand.

And Grapple tries to counter it with a takedown but Kock pushes his down on his head and steps out.

enabling Kock to counter with a crisp jab.
Grapple tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Kock manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
A jab from Kock does it's job there.

Grapple is rocked!
Grapple fails with the takedown
and Grapple takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Grapple is still on wobbly legs! Can Kock finish him?
Kock punishes Grapple's body with a nice straight punch.
Grapple shoots in looking for a takedown. Kock tries to sprawl out of it but Grapple keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kock manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Kock lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Kock fakes a right and follows up with a big left that drops Grapple to one knee - oooooh, he's wobbly! Grapple looks to clinch but Kock throws him off and pummels him into the canvas! Grapple taps out under the strikes! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:50 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Batang Kock!
Batang Kock tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
