The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Trejo uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Smith.
We've been told by Trejo's head coaches at Kevin Spacey`s Basement of Doom that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Trejo ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Trejo moves into range and clinches up with Smith.
Smith goes for a takedown attempt but Trejo pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Trejo lands a nice shot to the body.

Smith looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Trejo!
Smith is looking to take a break and control but Trejo is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The strikes coming from Smith are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Trejo parries the strikes from Smith easily there. Smith is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Trejo to escape.
Trejo is pushing Smith's head away, looking to escape. Smith manages to hold on to the position though.

Trejo knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Smith on the ground.

Smith is trying to get an arm triangle but Trejo is defending well.
Trejo tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Smith presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

Smith swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Trejo is now in Smith's guard. A big mistake from Smith there, giving up the dominant position!

Smith wants to sweep but no luck.
Trejo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Smith swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Smith has an active guard here but Trejo has managed to pass into half guard.
Trejo is taking a breather. Smith says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Smith is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Smith has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Trejo is working away from the top position though.
Smith wants to control but Trejo passes into side.

Trejo unloads with a big right hand that wobbles Smith! He's leaning against the cage trying to keep his feet but Trejo is unloading with more strikes now! Smith drops to his knees and the referee stops the fight for a TKO!
