PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Benny Rodriguez (ranked 5210 p4p, 5525 weight class) and Darrion Brown (ranked 507 p4p, 523 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Benny Rodriguez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Darrion Brown!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Percy O'Donnell.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rodriguez shoots and misses

and Brown counters by clinching up.

Brown pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Brown closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Rodriguez to the mat! Rodriguez manages to get full guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Rodriguez is on top in guard.

Brown is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Rodriguez stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Brown swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Rodriguez postures up.
Brown tries to strike from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rodriguez trying to control but Brown is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Brown wants to sweep here but Rodriguez controlling him for the moment.
Rodriguez tries to free his leg and advance position but Brown is retaining full guard.

Rodriguez drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Brown dives on top into guard.

Brown advances to half guard.
Brown lands strikes from half guard.
Brown is thwarting Rodriguez's attempts to control the position.

Brown lands with a punch from half guard.
Brown tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

Brown is looking for a kimura but Rodriguez is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Brown to get the leverage.
Brown is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Rodriguez is not content to let Brown control the position.
Brown wants to stand up but Rodriguez has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Brown looks winded!

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Brown is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Rodriguez doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Brown.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Rodriguez moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Brown wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Rodriguez's closed guard. He's half up but Rodriguez has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Rodriguez pivots and extends the arm, Brown falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Rodriguez! Well done that man!
