The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Contreiras uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Rose.
Rose has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Contreiras takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

and Rose decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Contreiras's guard.

Rose drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Rose jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

It looks like Rose might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Rose feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Rose controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Contreiras feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Rose sprawling to the canvas! Rose rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Contreiras finish him?!
