PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Generic Man (ranked 4577 p4p, 4598 weight class) and Junior Dillon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Generic Man!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Junior Dillon!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Jeff Smith and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Man dives in and scores a takedown into Dillon's guard.

Dillon pushes Man off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Dillon gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Man to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Man pushes down on Dillon's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Dillon gets full guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Dillon bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Man's guard.

Man wants to stand but Dillon is controlling the position.

Man looking for a sweep. Not yet Man, not yet.

Man has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Dillon can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Man being controlled here, momentarily.
Dillon wants to control from the top but Man keeps moving.
Dillon working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Dillon pushes down on Man's leg and manages to get into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Dillon trying to mount his opponent but Man defends it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dillon is nestled in close to Man, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Man wants to improve his position but Dillon is controlling well.
Dillon trying to control from half guard but Man is working away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Man on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Dillon lands strikes from half guard.

Dillon is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Man sees it coming and defends easily.
Still in half guard, Dillon seems content to control.
Man tries to get to full guard but Dillon has control of the leg.
Dillon is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Man knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Dillon on the ground.
Man wants to control but Dillon is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Dillon is looking to take a break and control but Man is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Man moves into range and clinches up with Dillon.

Man pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Dillon fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Man avoids it really well and circles away.

Man darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
The fighters are battling for position here. Dillon manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Junior Dillon will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Man scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Man trying to control the position but Dillon is working away.

Dillon tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Man wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Man tries to advance to mount but can't.
Man is putting a hurting on Dillon here, landing some big shots from side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Man throws a strike aimed at the side of Dillon's head but Dillon avoids it well.
Dillon misses with an elbow from the bottom.

Man tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Dillon tries to buck Man off but Man is having none of it.

Man thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
You can see the frustration on Dillon's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Dillon manages to work his way to half guard, despite Man's best efforts.
Man is looking to advance position but Dillon won't allow it.
Man is thwarting Dillon's attempts to control the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Dillon tries to score a power double leg takedown but Man sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Dillon somewhat.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Dillon changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Man tries to avoid it but Dillon manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Man to the ground. Man escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
It looked like Man was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Dillon drives through with a takedown into Man's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Dillon is breathing heavily.
Man trying to control the position here.
Dillon wants to control from the top but Man keeps moving.
Man utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Dillon trying to control but Man is working from the bottom.
Dillon throwing strikes but missing.

Dillon postures up and lands a big shot to Man's brow.
Man wants to stand and escape but Dillon is having none of it.
Man striking off his back but it's not causing Dillon any problems.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Man keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Generic Man has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Junior Dillon.

Man has managed to clinch.
Dillon is struggling to control the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Dillon breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Dillon closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Generic Man will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Man gets a double leg takedown into Dillon's guard.

Dillon has his foot on Man's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Man works his way back into a safe position though.

Man is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Dillon is trying to control the position but Man postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dillon is controlling Man's posture.

Dillon is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Dillon takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Man trying to control but Dillon is working from the bottom.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Generic Man is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Man shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Dillon's guard.

Dillon has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Man off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Man closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Dillon's guard.
Man lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Dillon not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Dillon might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Man haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Man controlling from the top position.
Dillon is trying to control the position but Man postures up.

Man stands up from Dillon's guard - Man perhaps looking for a knockout.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Man throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Dillon's head.

Man has Dillon up against the cage in a clinch.

Man breaks the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Man feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Dillon manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Man manages to get himself to full guard.

Dillon postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Dillon passes Man's left leg - he's now in half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Man wants to get back to full guard.
Junior Dillon has got the better of the ground game so far.
Dillon is trying to control the action in half guard but Man is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Dillon scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Man is trying to stand back up but Dillon is controlling him
Dillon wants to free his trapped foot but Man is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Generic Man.
I think Man has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
