PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tony Doblas (ranked 4817 p4p, 4840 weight class) and Floki Magnusson (ranked 446 p4p, 447 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Floki Magnusson!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Tarja Halkonen and Johanna Lukiainen.

Magnusson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Doblas's guard.

Magnusson decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Doblas, up you get!
Doblas misses the shot to the body.
Magnusson tries to counter by closing the distance.
Doblas swings for the body but Magnusson moves out of range.
Doblas cracks Magnusson with a right hand to the side of the head.

Doblas tries to sprawl but Magnusson drives through with a takedown into half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Doblas manages to escape and get back to his feet!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Doblas connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Doblas throws a jab when Magnusson was well out of range.
Doblas throws a shot to the body.
Magnusson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Magnusson is looking to work some ground and pound but Doblas has wrist control.
Magnusson throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Doblas works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Doblas knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Magnusson on the ground.

Magnusson is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Doblas is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Magnusson controls from within his opponent's guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
It looks like Magnusson might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Doblas looks to score with a jab to the body but Magnusson is just out of range.
Doblas is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Magnusson.

Magnusson fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Doblas, pushing him back against the cage.

Doblas tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Magnusson's elbow.

Magnusson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Magnusson shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Doblas is trying to defend but Magnusson finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Magnusson stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Doblas to get to his feet.

Magnusson fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Doblas to the ground. Magnusson is now in Doblas's guard.
Doblas can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Magnusson controls the pace.
Magnusson slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Magnusson decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Doblas is breathing heavily.

Magnusson gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Doblas swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Magnusson.
Doblas just misses with a punch to the body.
Doblas thows a left - swing and a miss!
Tony Doblas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Doblas sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Magnusson is trying to trip Doblas. He has hold of a leg but Doblas is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Magnusson persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Magnusson is standing up over Doblas. Doblas looks to escape but Magnusson dives into side control.

Magnusson lands a decent elbow from side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Floki Magnusson dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Magnusson shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Doblas manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Floki Magnusson has got the better of the ground game so far.

Magnusson stands and steps away. Doblas gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Magnusson shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Magnusson was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Magnusson cracks Doblas with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Magnusson controls the position from side control.
Magnusson moves into full mount!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Magnusson looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Magnusson working for a submission but Doblas is keeping him at bay.
Magnusson lands a couple of good shots and Doblas has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
Magnusson slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

Magnusson lands shots to the head and Doblas turtles up! The ref has seen enough and stops the fight! This one is over!

After winning the bout, Floki Magnusson thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
