PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rich Mahogany (ranked 5521 p4p, 5185 weight class) and Hanzo Hattori (ranked 571 p4p, 558 weight class). Mahogany comes to the cage accompanied by Look Good in Leather. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rich Mahogany!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hanzo Hattori!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Lou da Vinci and John Kavanagh.

Mahogany misses the shot to the body.

Mahogany gets caught napping as Hattori dives in and scores a takedown. Mahogany manages to retain guard.

Mahogany seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Hattori for as long as he can get away with.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Hattori drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Mahogany manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Hattori manages to get himself to full guard.

Mahogany is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Mahogany has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Hanzo Hattori will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Mahogany shoots in and drives through. Hattori sprawls well.
Mahogany throws a head kick but Hattori moves out of range.
Hattori drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Mahogany defends it well.
Mahogany shoots in for a takedown but Hattori shows good takedown defense.

Hattori closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Mahogany did well to prevent Hattori getting side control.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Hattori lands a nice short elbow.
Mahogany wants to control but Hattori is keeping busy and won't allow it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mahogany is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Hattori is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Hattori throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Mahogany is controlling Hattori's trapped leg to prevent Hattori from advancing to side control.
Mahogany is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Hattori is trying to control the action in half guard but Mahogany is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Mahogany is trying to maintain the position but Hattori is very close to passing his half guard.
Hattori looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Mahogany with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Mahogany gets back to full guard.
Mahogany tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Hattori working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Hattori trying to control the position from guard on top but Mahogany is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Hattori has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Mahogany controls Hattori momentarily but Hattori frees himself.
Hattori sitting in guard here, content to control.
Hattori stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mahogany swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hattori trying to control but Mahogany is working from the bottom.

Hattori is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Mahogany has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Hattori is looking to defend but Mahogany has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Hattori! Mahogany pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Hattori taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Rich Mahogany!
A relieved looking Rich Mahogany thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
