PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Old Cucky (ranked 6597 p4p, 6604 weight class) and Chris Finch (ranked 619 p4p, 622 weight class). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Old Cucky!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Chris Finch!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, John Kavanagh and Alyssa Summers.

Finch fails in his attempt to clinch.

Cucky closes the distance and clinches.
Cucky tries to pull guard but Finch forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Cucky is looking to break free of the clinch but Finch has double underhooks.
Finch prevents Cucky from breaking the clinch.

Cucky is looking to control Finch's arms but Finch gets an underhook and turns him. Now Cucky has his back to the cage.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Finch has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

I was talking to Cucky's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Finch swats away the attempt to clinch by Cucky.
Finch avoids a punch combination nicely.
Finch tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Cucky swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Cucky tests Finch's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Finch tries a head kick but it misses.
Finch walks into a jab.

Cucky tries to keep at a distance but Finch has taken the fight into the clinch.
Finch has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Cucky is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Finch is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Cucky escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

The fight stays on the outside here - Cucky looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Finch keeps control of Cucky as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Cucky tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Finch manages to break the clinch.

Cucky is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Finch's half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Finch can do anything to dispel that myth.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Finch is trying to maintain the position but Cucky is very close to passing his half guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Cucky takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cucky prevents Finch from standing back up.

Cucky is looking for a kimura here.
Finch works his way to full guard. Good work.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Finch wants to sweep but no luck.

Finch had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Cucky defends it easily.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Old Cucky will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!

Finch misses with a body kick.
Cucky cracks a nice hook into Finch's ribs.
Cucky walks forward, straight into a front kick from Finch.
Cucky stuns Finch with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Finch has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Cucky finds it's way round the side to connect with Finch's head.
Finch uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Cucky.
Old Cucky is winning the standup battle so far.
Cucky tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Finch stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Finch wants it to stay on the feet.
Finch has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Cucky finds it's way round the side to connect with Finch's head.
Finch misses with a jab, cross combination.
Cucky lands a nice shot that snaps Finch's head back.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Cucky!

Finch is rocked!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
BAM! Cucky delivers a spinning backfist that drops Finch like a ragdoll! This is all oooooveeeer! He was out before he hit the ground!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:50 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Spinning Backfist). Old Cucky!
