CACC 98 PBP Commentary |
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the lightweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Amsterdam, with a TWGC record of 7 wins and 3 losses; Ray Malenko! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 3 wins and 5 losses; Joshua Brown!
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Malenko gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Brown goes for a takedown in the clinch but Malenko prevents it.
Brown works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Malenko (0) vs (2) Brown
Brown stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Malenko swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Malenko working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Brown doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Brown manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
We've been hearing good reports from Malenko's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Brown is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Brown got a little sloppy there for a moment and Malenko has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Brown has managed to get both his arms back between Malenko's legs - danger averted.

Malenko looking for a triangle here. Brown is fighting it but it looks tight! Malenko pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Brown is tapping out - this one is all over!
