PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Koryu Miyagi (ranked 2507 p4p, 261 weight class) and Saenchai Sor (ranked 3727 p4p, 363 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Koryu Miyagi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Saenchai Sor!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Cecil Peabody and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sor lands with a hook. Miyagi tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Sor looks to land a combination but Miyagi avoids it well.
Miyagi takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Sor fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Miyagi has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Sor wants to land a leg kick but Miyagi is out of range.
Sor stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Miyagi fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Sor sprawls well initially but Miyagi persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Miyagi throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Sor to regain full guard.
Miyagi tries to free his leg and advance position but Sor is retaining full guard.

We've been hearing good reports from Miyagi's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Sor is staying active underneath Miyagi, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Miyagi thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Sor's head.

Miyagi is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Sor reverses the position - he's now on top in Miyagi's guard.

Sor stands and steps away. Miyagi gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Miyagi walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Sor dodges the ground and pound from Miyagi.
Miyagi tries to score with some ground and pound. Sor controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Miyagi is looking to take a break and control but Sor is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Sor tries to escape but Miyagi is in control.
Miyagi throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Miyagi is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Sor is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Miyagi thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Sor is not content to let Miyagi control the position.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Koryu Miyagi will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Sor looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sor uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Miyagi clinches up with Sor and pushes him back against the cage.

Sor has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Sor softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.

Miyagi goes for a takedown in the clinch but Sor prevents it.
Sor misses with the head strike.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Koryu Miyagi. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sor tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Sor lands a right hand that snaps the head of Miyagi backwards.
Miyagi is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Sor pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Sor swings wildly with an uppercut but Miyagi uses good head movement to avoid it.
Miyagi changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Sor fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Miyagi shoots in looking for a takedown but Sor manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Miyagi's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Sor connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Miyagi's hands.

Sor gets through Miyagi's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

Miyagi tries to score a body lock takedown but Sor shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Sor is pressed up against the cage. Miyagi has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Sor down to the mat. Sor avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

A punch lands to the side of Miyagi 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Saenchai Sor seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Sor keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Miyagi takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Saenchai Sor seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sor cracks Miyagi with an open hand slap.
Miyagi dives in for a single leg takedown but Sor sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Sor is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.

so Miyagi counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Koryu Miyagi overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Sor wants to stand but Miyagi is controlling the position.

Miyagi stands up over Sor, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Miyagi throws an elbow that misses. Sor uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Miyagi's guard. Nice move by Sor!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Saenchai Sor showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Miyagi takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Sor scores with the left hand. Miyagi knows he should have avoided that one.
Miyagi closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Miyagi shoots for a takedown but Sor saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Sor jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Sor lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Sor throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Miyagi on the side of the head.
Miyagi gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Sor.

Sor connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

Miyagi shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Sor napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Sor is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Miyagi is controlling him well.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Miyagi stalling away here and it's allowed Sor to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Miyagi wants to control from the top but Sor keeps moving.
Miyagi lands a couple of elbows.
Miyagi stops Sor from standing up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Miyagi shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Sor as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Koryu Miyagi. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Miyagi takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Sor scores with a hook.

And that's the end of the fight!
Saenchai Sor comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Sor has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
