PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between John Lee (ranked 1278 p4p, 70 weight class) and Cedrick Diggery (ranked 6029 p4p, 236 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Lee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cedrick Diggery!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Reed Andrews and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Oooh a lovely combination from Lee sends Diggery down but not out. Lee dives into side control looking to finish.


It looks like Cedrick Diggery has been cut.
Diggery parries the strikes from Lee easily there. Lee is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Diggery to escape.
Lee throwing strikes but Diggery manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Lee looks to move to half guard but instead Diggery has passed into mount! Damn!
Diggery can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Lee is looking to escape.
Lee is looking to improve his position but Diggery isn't that keen on the idea.
Lee wants to control but Diggery is having none of it.
Lee holds of for dear life.

Lee is trying to escape the mount.
We've been hearing good reports from Lee's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lee is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Lee bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Lee makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Lee cracks Diggery with a solid left hand.
Lee throws a strike but Diggery rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Lee pulls Diggery in close to prevent any damage.
Lee looking to hit a scissor sweep but Diggery is one step ahead there.
Lee seems keen to control Diggery's posture.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Diggery must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Diggery trying to stand up but can't free himself from Lee's guard.
Diggery wants to stand and escape but instead Lee has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Lee lands a couple of digs.
Lee with a flurry of punches that miss.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Lee's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Lee postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Lee controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Lee throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Lee might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Lee is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Lee cracks Diggery with a solid left hand.

Lee tries to free his leg and advance position but Diggery is retaining full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Lee dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Cedrick Diggery's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



A jab-cross combination lands for Lee and sends Diggery crashing to the mat! Lee follows him down to the mat - Diggery regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet!


Diggery is still looking wobbly from the end of the last round!
Lee lands a big elbow - Diggery is out of it! He's waving his arms around but his eyes are closed and he's not intelligently defending himself - the ref has no choice but to jump in and stop the fight! This one is in the books! A TKO win for Lee!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:23 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Lee!
John Lee tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
