PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Martian Manhunter (ranked 2986 p4p, 283 weight class) and Tim Harris (ranked 1848 p4p, 206 weight class). Manhunter comes into the arena with My Name Is J'onn J'onzz blaring out of the sound system. Tim Harris told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Donald Grub and Sam Margolis.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Harris stuns Manhunter with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
We've been told by Manhunter's head coaches at Dark Horse MMA (HBE) that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Manhunter misses with a jab, cross combination.
Martian Manhunter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Manhunter throws a right and a left that Harris avoids nicely.
Harris takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Harris shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Manhunter as he avoids it easily.
Manhunter lands with a shot to the body.
Harris shoots in but no luck this time.
Harris avoids the body shot from Manhunter.
Harris fails with a takedown attempt.
Martian Manhunter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tim Harris.
Harris has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Manhunter finds it's way round the side to connect with Harris's head.
Manhunter uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Harris goes for a double leg but Manhunter avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Manhunter continues to drive forward.

Manhunter bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Harris's guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Harris can do anything to dispel that myth.

Manhunter postures up in Harris's guard and throws a big left but Harris blocks it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Harris avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Manhunter gets to his feet. Harris looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Manhunter pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Manhunter lands a nice hook to Harris's body. Harris takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Harris dodges the punch combination from Manhunter.
Harris drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Manhunter defends it well.

Manhunter misses the shot to the body.
Manhunter thuds his right hand into Harris's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Harris has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.

Manhunter's jab looks to have found its range, popping Harris under the eye.

and Harris counters with a three punch combo that has Manhunter backing up. Manhunter nods at Harris to acknowledge the strikes.

Manhunter throws a nice looking combination but Harris bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Harris wants to clinch but Manhunter slips to the side
and Manhunter counters with a straight right hand.
A head kick misses from Harris.
A little feinted left hand from Manhunter on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Manhunter looks to land a combination but Harris avoids it well.
Horrible takedown attempt by Harris or perhaps it was just good defense by Manhunter, which made it look bad.
Harris throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Manhunter.
Manhunter misses with a series of wild punches.
Harris ducks under a wild hook from Manhunter.
Martian Manhunter is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Harris gets a clinch.
Harris jumps guard but Manhunter turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Harris has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Manhunter after a bit of a struggle.

Manhunter fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Manhunter wants to get back to striking at distance but Harris won't allow it.

Manhunter wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Harris has him pressed against the cage.

Harris manages to break the clinch.

Manhunter tests Harris's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Harris keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Manhunter fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Harris ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Harris lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.

Harris shoots in but no luck this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Martian Manhunter dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Harris bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Manhunter is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Harris can do to turn this around?
Harris takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Manhunter throws a one two combo.

Martian Manhunter is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Manhunter throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Harris sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Manhunter throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Manhunter misses with the combination.
Manhunter misses with a few strikes there.
Harris takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Harris throws a good cross that connects.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

and Harris counters with a crisp one two that drops Manhunter! Harris thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Manhunter to his feet! Manhunter is in big trouble!

Oh Manhunter is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Harris closes the distance and clinches.
Harris works on Manhunter's body with a couple of short punches.

Harris's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Harris bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

and Harris counters with a left and a right... and another left... and another!! That last one turned off the lights! Manhunter has no idea who he is and is as he gazes up at the spotlights. Brutal knockout!
