PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Matt Carpenter (ranked 2000 p4p, 112 weight class) and Red Fox (ranked 2084 p4p, 116 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Matt Carpenter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Red Fox!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Micheangelo Fripello and Ryoma Takatsuka.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fox lands with a nice combination. Carpenter backs away looking to recover.

It looks like Matt Carpenter has been cut.
Fox tries for a takedown but Carpenter sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Carpenter cracks Fox with a right hand to the side of the head.
Fox fails with the takedown.
A little feinted left hand from Carpenter on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Fox throws a right hand that misses
and Carpenter counters with a left and a right that stings Fox.
Fox with a poor takedown
and Carpenter counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Matt Carpenter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Red Fox.
Carpenter takes a swing at Fox's ribcage but misses.
Fox moves away from the strike by Carpenter.
Fox throws a body punch but Carpenter moves out of range.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Carpenter walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
A jab from Carpenter misses.
Fox has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Carpenter really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Carpenter throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Fox takes one on the button.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nice uppercut lands for Carpenter. That snapped Fox's head back.
Carpenter cracks Fox with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
A shot to the liver by Carpenter. Beautiful body shot.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Carpenter enables Fox to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Carpenter manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Fox keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Carpenter's head.

Carpenter is rocked!
Fox gets to his feet and stands over Carpenter, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Carpenter felt that one! Fox unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Carpenter from any more punishment!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Red Fox!
After winning the bout, Red Fox thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
