Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Christian King!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Bruno Lombardi and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wessel looks for a takedown but King sprawls well.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from King.
King takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

King is rocked!
King throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Wessel shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Wessel throws a combination but it was largely blocked by King.
A punch lands to the side of Wessel 's head but he takes it in his stride.
No joy there for Wessel, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
The fight stays on the outside here - King looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
King misses with a takedown

and Wessel counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Wessel wants to lay and pray for a moment but King keeps working.
King regains full guard. Nicely done.
Wessel won't allow King to sweep him here.

King wants to stand but Wessel is controlling the position.
King looking for a sweep. Not yet King, not yet.

King looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Wessel lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

King has his foot on Wessel's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Wessel works his way back into a safe position though.

King has momentary wrist control but Wessel slips an elbow through the middle.
King is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Wessel accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Wessel swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Wessel scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
King is looking for a sweep.
Wessel tries to stand but King is controlling his head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
King sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
King is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

King is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Wessel scores with a couple of nice shots.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Wessel swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
King avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
King lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Wessel shoots for a double leg takedown but King sprawls well. He's pushed Wessel's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

King thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Wessel wants to stand up but King is controlling him.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Wessel wants to clinch up but King keeps it at a distance.
Wessel doesn't succeed with the takedown
and King counters with a straight right hand.
King goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Wessel stuffs the takedown.
King lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

and King counters with a shoot takedown. Wessel fights it but they end up in guard.

King slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

King thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

King tries to score with some ground and pound. Wessel controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
King tries to move to full mount but Wessel actually manages to regain half guard.
King is trying to control the action in half guard but Wessel is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

King is working for a submission of some sort.
King seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Wessel does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Wessel regains full guard. Nicely done.
King looking to sit in guard and control but Wessel gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

King had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Wessel is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. King Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Wessel's back instead.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

King tightening his grip on Wessel, looking for the choke.
Wessel wants to escape the position.

King looking to break Wessel's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Wessel remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise King will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
Wessel is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Wessel breaks King's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Wessel has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
King is striking off his back. Wessel thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.
Wessel is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Christian King showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


King looks to land a combination but Wessel avoids it well.

King looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Wessel tries to get to full guard but King has control of the leg.

Wessel lands with an uppercut that bounces King off the cage and back into rage.
Wessel tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and King counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by King.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
King advances to half guard.

Ground and pound from King.
King working the head and body with strikes.
King trying to control from half guard but Wessel is working away.
King is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Wessel has given up his back here. Will King look for the submission or keep pounding away?

King seems to be working for a kimura but Wessel defends the submission attempt.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Wessel works over King's head and body with a nice combination.

King looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Wessel!
Wessel tries to reverse the position but King maintains control.

King gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

Eric Wessel has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
King fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Wessel shoots in but King avoids the takedown attempt easily.
King keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Christian King comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well King has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
