Author:

Hello again everyone “Sunshine” Weston Markson here again along with Rudy “The Box” Knife.  We are here to discuss the great event HMMA 39 The event is headlined by a former champion in the 205lbs division, and a HMMA newcomer Fedor Alexandrov, its going to be a great main event, but that’s not all were bringing to you, we have two former LHW champions fighting, and the former longtime lightweight kingpin, and soon to be HoF fighter Carlton Robinson.

Rudy: Yea that’s right Wes, this whole card is full of great fights, and great fighters I cant wait to see some of these HMMA veterans, former champions, and some of these HMMA debuts,  its going to be a crazy night of fights lets dig right into this.

MAIN EVENT

Fedor “Sambist” Alexandrov (13-3) v  Antonio "Tony Thrill" Trillanes  (13-6)

Weston:  The main event of the evening brings to us a former champion to carry the task of welcoming HMMA newcomer Fedor “Sambist” Alexandrov who many are looking to be the next big challenger to Takeo Okamoto’s championship.  Fedor comes to us with huge hype and reputation with the fans it will be exciting to see if he can live up to the hype facing a former champion is the perfect way to gauge just where he may sit in the division.

Rudy:  Your absloutly correct Weston, I am excited for this fight,  we could very well be seeing the next big thing in HMMA, or the resurgence of a former champion, “Tony Thrill” has recently earned his black belt from TOP TEAM LONDON, this could be a huge factor going in to the fight as most people felt “Sambist” had a huge advantage on the ground.  The key factors in this fight are will “Sambist” be able to get Trillanes to the ground to work his world class GNP or will Trillanes be able to keep it standing, and get back to his feet quickly avoid damage once the fight hits the canvas.

Prediction:  Although these two guys have differing strategies they both have 10 wins by (t)KO, my prediction for this fight is someone gets knocked out whoever implements there game plan better wins.

CO-MAIN EVENT

Pain Statement (19-6) v  Julius “Lights Out” Lawson (20-10-1)

Weston: The next fight on the card is between two guys making there HMMA heavyweight debut.  These two fighters have 35 knockouts between the two of them, and come Saturday im expecting both guys will come in to the cage looking to put the other too sleep, this fight could lead to the winner establishing a name for himself amongst the top of the heavyweight division and I am really looking forward to seeing two great HW strikers battle.

Rudy:  This fight has FOTN potential neither fighter has a great ground game, but both fighters have elite boxing skills this fight could be a blast from the past as I expect both of them to come out like heavyweight boxers and box until one cant stand anymore, this fight is Ali/Foreman, Ali/Frazier Ali/Liston esque, this is big fight atmosphere and I really wish HMMA could have this fight take place in Manila or, in a Jungle.

Prediction:  This fight could go either way, Pain has been on a role, but my gut tells me Lawson is going to win this by TKO.

MAIN CARD

9th Kingston Bartholemeaux(18-8) v  5th Jesus Rios  (26-9)

Weston:  This is the last fight before the main events, and its going to be an awesome its one, we have Kingston Barthlomeaux who is on the rise with two straight wins in HMMA  he comes into the fight having a perfect 2-0 record in HMMA and ranked #9.  Jesus Rios is a game opponent though he is a former HMMA LHW champion and 5th ranked in the division the winner of this fight will find themselves moving up the ladder and getting closer for a shot at the champ.

Rudy:  Absolutely whats not to love about two top 10 LHWs going toe to toe.  What I love about this fight is both guys are known for their striking, these two guys have 30!.....YES 30!!!! (t)KO’s between the two of them.  It’s a safe bet to say both fighters will be looking the knock the other out.  Something else that could be interesting is that Rios for probably the first time since joining HMMA holds a BJJ advantage he could possibly look for the opportunity to pick up his first submission win…..but I doubt it.

Prediction:  I think im going to take Bartholemeaux to continue to move forward in what I consider to be a bit of an upset against one of the best LHW in HMMA history.

Fu Manchu (12-4) v 8th  “The Butcher” Bill Cutting  (14-9)

Weston:  The next fight showcases a man who was recently the 5th inductee into the HMMA HoF, against a man who after winning his last fight called the champion out wanting a shot at his title.  After winning 4 straight fights HMMA HoF fighter Fu Manchu came into his last fight with all the confidence in the world, but came up on the short end of a decision.  Now Manchu looks to get back into winning gear taking on the upstart Bill Cutting who comes into the fight after winning two straight fights and moving into the 8th spot on the ranking list.  Cutting came out of his last fight on top, and after shocked the world when he told everyone “I want a shot at the championship”  mouths dropped and the world took notice, now Cutting could come one step closer to getting his chance with a win.

Rudy:  Weston I know you love a good slugfest, and this is another one of those fights that could turn into a brawl.  I expect both fighters to come out and look for the knockout,  these two fighters also have a huge KO total between the two of them 20 (t)KO’s.   One thing to note is that Manchu has never been knocked out himself but Cutting has been himself 5 times.  Could this spell trouble for Cutting, or could this motivate Cutting to be the first ever to KO the HoFer Manchu?

Prediction:  Cutting his hot lately, but Manchu is a huge test, all im going to predict is a KO.

Martez Cortega (7-2) v 10th  James “Java man” Avalon (11-4)

Weston: With another contest between two highly ranked LHW’s im starting to think that HMMA should have named this event the LHW Contenders Showcase.  The next fight is between former challenger for the title Martez Cortega, and the 10th ranked fighter in the division James Avalon after a disappointing debut loss James Avalon rebounded in a big way by picking up a decision against a game contender and rising challenger now he finds himself ranked 10th and looking to move forward to move into the top five of the division, but a steep challenge awaits him in the former #1 contender and title challenger Martez Cortega, who comes into the fight after a huge underdog win, before that fight he too had been on a losing streak against top competition including the champion.  Now one of these men will take a step closer to the title aspirations, and one will be back on the losing side of the tracks after having tasted victory.  Who’s it gonna be?

Rudy:  Well im not sure who the winner is going to be BUT, I do know both of these guys are well rounded,  both have wins in every way imaginable, and neither are afraid where ever the fight goes.  This is a huge fight, and both have the skills to move forward and be elite in this division, I cant wait to see which one of these fighters takes that next step.

Prediction:  I think Avalon will take a close decision here.

Carlton “Razor” Robinson (20-7-1) v “Mr Decision”  Mike Tyson  (13-8)

Weston:  HERE HE COMES! The former LW champion of the world, the soon to be recently announced Hall of Famer CARLTON ROBINSON!  Ladies and gentlemen anytime this fella steps into the cage you know you will be entertained, and now after dominating  the division for so long Robinson looks to get back on track and work his way back to his title….but to do this a dangerous man stands  in his way,  a name synonymous with fear, pain, and devastation…..Mike Tyson who makes his HMMA debut in a BIG way against quite possibly the biggest name in the division outside the current title holder.  Both fighters have something to gain, one looks to get the rubber match against the champion, and the other looks to build a name for himself in HMMA.

Rudy:  Both of these fighters prefer to stand up and go at their opponent, both guys have proven to be hard to knock out.  Although both fighters are well rounded Tyson has a small advantage on the ground, although he prefers to stand there is a chance he looks for a takedown and tries for submissions/GNP or even some LNP for a decision.  This fight will be fun one to see the outcome as it has huge implications.  This may be my favorite fight on the card.

Prediction:  I think Carlton will take this fight late by KO

PRELIMS

Tommy Farr  v  Hunter Hearst Hogan

Jack Pott  v  Glenn Benton

Rocco Stupka  v  Lyndon Jones

Samir Nasri  v  Jong Bak

Rudy: The prelims of the card are Caitlin! What?  That means SEKSI!!!! Sunshine!

Weston: Don’t call me “sunshine” I left that nickname behind me when I quit fighting buy you are fight the prelims are home to some very intriguing matchups.  We have Tommy Farr taking on Hunter Hearst Hogan in another LHW fight, Hogan could very well be a top 5 in the division guy but comes off a loss, he is a former contender and serious threat to all in the division, Farr is looking to build a reputation as one of the future stars, The prelims also have two guys who are looking for a chance to be amongst the top of the welterweight division, Jack Pott and Glenn Benton im sure they will both come out and try and make a statement.   Also the always entertaining and one of my favorite fighters Lyndon Jones welcomes  Rocco Stupka to HMMA, Jones a veteran of HMMA has slipped a little lately but looks to get back on track and could very well do that against Stupka, while Stupka looks to take out  a HMMA veteran and let the rest of the division know who he be.  Also Samir Nasri will be making his debut against the always tough Jong Bak this is a fight im looking forward to and quite possibly the fight I want to see the most.

Well as always good luck to all the fighters may the odds be in your favor..
