MKFC Holiday PPV - Preview

Event Preview: MKFC Holiday PPV
ACME - MKFC:Revolution
2011-12-09, St Petersburg, Kazan Sambo Center
Author:Paul Dengel

As an early celebration of the holidays – the hottest MMA organization in the frozen tundra brings a stellar event that will radiate enough electricity to melt the ice caps. The MKFC returns to the Kazan Sambo Center this Friday night for a PPV event featuring SIX title fights and a stellar main event! This will mark the third time the MKFC has ventured into the pay per view offerings and are hoping to exceed the prior to events sales. Prior to the main event, officials will induct a third veteran into the hall of fame and with several deserving parties the question remains as to whom the inductee will be, MKFC officials have chosen to leave it a surprise but it should be fairly easy to narrow down who it would be.   The main event showcases MKFC light heavyweight champion Lincoln Thomas (15-4) in a non-title Super Fight. His opponent will be Fedor Jr Emilianko (19-1) a Rio based fighter who has notched some big time wins in his career including a victory over the worlds 10th ranked P4P fighter Siouxsie Banshees. Thomas, a winner of seven straight will try to score a finish over Emelianko, himself a winner of eight straight, though most of his victories have gone the distance. Thomas, a career MKFC fighter will have the local crowd firmly in his corner but what he gains here in his size and reach advantage he gives up in weakness in the clinch and slightly less polished wrestling game then his foe. Looking forward to seeing this one go a few rounds but will be cheering for a finish.   Two ACME featherweight champions will meet in the co-main event with the MKFC title on the line in hopes of naming a first ACME unified champion as Sydney based Triumph United champion Johnny McBraddish (27-6) meets MKFC champion Mike Cope (16-3). Cope, while seasoned, is not quite the veteran that the Aussie based champion is, and the local boy will be the underdog. Cope relies more on his ground skills to secure victories, and his chin is solid which should work to his advantage against the hard hitting McBraddish. The local fans will be praying that their hero can tire out the TU champ and survive for the first few rounds before making his move to take this one south for the finish.  McBraddish a winner of five straight is expected to represent his adopted homeland well, expect some rabid Australians giving up the Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi chants …   Paco da Man (16-4-1), the MKFC heavyweight champ, is on a six fight unbeaten streak and makes his second defense of the title against Cliff Huxtable (12-4). Huxtable, by virtue of two huge wins – he basically retired Igor Zhitnik and then battered former champion Kaban Demidov – has earned this title opportunity.  Da Man and Huxtable are both finishers with heavy hands and very solid stand up. Undoubtedly this one will be a slugfest which should throw the fans into a nice froth – bet on a KO here.   To start a professional career and go 7-0 is impressive, to do the same and score 5 knockouts and secure a championship belt in the process means that open weight champion Freddy Mercury (7-0) is the for real. Mercury, a hulking heavyweight has dominated the MKFC open weight division (205#+).   After going undefeated in the hardcore league he continued to dismantle all comers and took the crown at the huge Ice Box PPV back in November after the ring side doctors stopped the fight in the first round. Challenging for the title is Late Creation (8-1). Creation, with 7 KO’s to his credit has twice gone the distance once with a win and the other a loss; no one expects this one to go five rounds. A hard hitting heavyweight himself, Creation is expected to test the chin of the champion. I expect a finish here, sooner rather than later!     Bantamweights may not get respect in other European fight orgs, but in the MKFC the little men reign supreme. Stanley Stuus is P4P the #2 ranked bantamweight in the world, and MKFC champion. Since coming to the MKFC after a first round loss in the ACME worldwide bantamweight tourney, “Slinky” has gone 11-0, taken the championship and knocked off two top 20 P4P ranked fighters during the trip to the top. In his two defenses, Stuus effectively used his opponents strengths against them to dramatic effect – will he strike gold for the third time when he faces the #13 P4P bantam in the world, Peeta Mellark? Mellark (17-5) was one of the top bantams in North America and was the Montreal ACME champion until that org shuttered it’s doors. Seeking the best opposition in the world, the 29 year old arrived in St Pete and won his debut in a headline event in October. These guys both fight wars and rarely finish their opponents – expect a clinic of technique here.   Leading into Michael Koch’s last two fights he was called “a bum”, “the luckiest son of a bitch ever” and was predicted to “lose horribly” and “cry like the girl that he is.” Well there has been no trash talk leading into this fight from his opponent as Koch (17-10) had won the middleweight title by submission and then punctuated it with a knockout defense. Koch is no paper champion folks. Teuvo Loman (21-7) learned that the hard way when he lost the championship belt to Koch back in September. Loman up two rounds to one was hurt by a punch and took the fight south where he thought he could coast a bit and recover, instead he found himself tapping to a guillotine. Now with two more notches in the W column, Loman is back to challenge for the title he once held. Again stylistically this one should tip to the challenger who has a better clinch and grappling game but as Koch has showed us – he can find ways to win. An underdog champion always makes for a “who knows” type of night – let’s hope these biys bring it!   In a re-do of the MKFC 159 Fight of the Night, Sami Vasara(11-2) and Sebastien Linne (13-5) will do battle once again, this time for Vasara’s lightweight title. In their first meeting Vasara used range to score for two rounds as Linne tried to steal points with takedowns as the first two rounds ended. Round three saw more of the same but Linne had Vasara stunned and fighting to survive, clearly rocked but holding on for the squeaker of a victory. Since then Vasara went on to take the title Linne had lost so we get a re-do that we can only hope is half as exciting as the initial battle.   On the undercard: Harvi Kalaso (20-15) seeks his second victory in the MKFC lightweight division in what will be his fourth attempt. Andre Verona (5-5) of Montreal has racked off two successive MKFC victories and looks to have his career back on track. Can he continue his good fortune against such a veteran fighter? Open weight brawler Tamias Poochyena  (5-2) has only lost two one man, twice, and that is the current OW champion. A huge man, he wades in and brawls which should be awesome when you figure his opponent is Kirk Laputa (3-0). Laputa crushed his first MKFC opponent in under two minutes and is not happy unless he is being hit and hitting someone. Fists will be a flying!! To start the night we have a former welter weight champion Jetset Niemi (14-7-1) with the chance once again to showcase his talents in the cage against veteran fighter Brent Huthe (13-7). As both fighters tend to go to a decision this should be a nice match to get to your seat to.   I know I am stoked to be about to lose another $200k on a PPV – order now so we can keep these coming!
