"Capt"n" Jacques Hallow: Past to Present

Fighter profile of Jacques Hallow by John Hetfield

The Canadian big man, Jacques Hallow, has been making a name for himself far from his hometown of Grise Fiord. ‘Cap’n’ Jacques currently is fighting in Amsterdam where his manager brought him to fight of the Untouchable Fight League’s super heavyweight divison upon its opening of that division.

Hallow used to work for his family fishing company, where he was captain of his own ship, hence the nick name. Though his family is originally from Grise Ford and he lived there for many years, Jacques been living in many towns alongside the coast line of Canada for work. In his teens, Jacques developed an interest in weight lifting, which helped him out with work as well. It didn’t take him long to develop huge amounts of strength and he soon got a reputation as one of the strongest man around in every town he set foot in.

“The family moved a lot because of the numbers of the fish we caught being to low at times to keep paying the bills, and every town we got in I joined a gym and just spend every free moment I had there. It didn’t take long before people noticed my strength and started to try to get me in to fighting. I did not have much interest at the time, I was trying to help the family out and make sure we had food on the table. Though there came a point where the numbers were so low, and the expenses were barely covered, I had to do something about it.”

And that’s where Hallow made the decision to start fighting. He didn’t make much money when he started to fight in the local amateur scenes, but it was enough to put food on the table and his family was able to keep the company going.

“When I started to fight, I made about 200 bucks a for my first two fights. I was just fighting bums, guys that thought they were badass because they were big and brawled in bars every weekend. Damn. I was in much better shape than those guys, all they did were sit, drink and fight. I felt bad for knocking them out, but hey, when you step in a ring or cage, you know you can get hurt… and I’m glad it had not been on the receiving end off that.”

Manager John Hetfield came across Jacques Hallow after seeing a video of him on the internet, where Jacques just dominated his opponent and knocked him out in an impressive fashion.

“John got in touch with me after knocking this one guy out people had been talking about, saying he was going to make it to the big times soon. I guess he may have wanted to sign him, but those plans went down the toilet when I KO’d him. I got to admit that the dude did good, he controlled me on the ground and didn’t let me get up, but his striking was so poor.. I just had to make sure he didn’t get me down again. After the fight John called me and said “You got a big heart, you got knockout power, and I believe that you’ll make it with or without me. But if you want to get the best managing around without getting screwed over, then come fly out to Amsterdam. I got this place that is opening its super heavyweight division and I think you will do well”. And I guess he was right looking at my accomplishments with the Untouchable Fight League”.

Hallow made an impressive debut, knocking his opponent out at the 20 second mark of the first round. Which led to him getting a fight for the championship against Serge Popoyan.

“The fight against Serge was the toughest I have had till this very date. I had him hurt BADLY in the first round, he was so close to being knocked out, to being punched into another dimension, but the guy survived and his recovery in that 1 minute… is something so impressive that I still can’t wrap my mind around it. I thought I’d be able to finish him in the 2nd round, but we went to the judges decision and I had not been able to put him in same kind of trouble as I had him in the 1st round. Luckily, I won via decision but that’s a fight I won’t forget.”

After winning the championship, Hallow has been able to defend it on two different occasions, against, Roman Martin and Master Shredder who he both beat via TKO. However, it seems that Hallow may have an even tougher match in his upcoming fight… as he will be taking on Serge Popoyan again.

“Yep, they called me and said they wanted me to take on Serge again. I was down straight away to take the fight. Serge gave me my hardest run yet, and I want to show the world that I can finish him this time around. He’s shown he’s hungry too to get the gold, winning two fights in a row via knockout. I know he is heavy handed, he punched me a good bit in our first fight.. but look at how I took those, look at how little effect they had on me. I don’t fear his striking, I don’t fear the fact that he is a BJJ Purple Belt either. I may be a white belt, but let’s not forget that I am the much better wrestler.. he won’t take me down, and he knows this. That’s why he didn’t try it in the previous fight. He’s a smart man, and that’s something to watch out for when we meet again.”

Jacques Hallow will take on Serge Popoyan at UFL 34: Cylo vs Gustaffsson in the co-main event on the 22nd of September. Jacques seems ready for the fight, and we have no doubt that Serge and him will put up one hell of a fight.
