HERO 25: Naama vs Shields

Prelims

Middleweight Division: Dave Geerts vs Rafael Carneiro

Geerts showed great counter striking in this one. Every time that Carneiro shot in for a takedown, he sidestepped it and cracked Carneiro with a big shot After a few of these had Carneiro on wobbly legs, Geerts went on the attack to finish things. Result: Geerts by 1st round TKO (Strikes)

Welterweight Division: Kabraskly Ratshatudiev vs Teemu Yumma

The majority of this fight was spent in the clinch. Both men were quite active, but had trouble penetrating the other's defenses. Ratshatudiev went for 26 takedowns and only connected on 3. Yumma threw out 95 strikes and only landed 14. However, he mixed in a few takedowns as well, which won him the approval of the judges. Result: Yumma by unanimous decision

Welterweight Division: Rizvan Abdurashidov vs Puppie Lamzak

Abdurashidov took Lamzak down in the first and kept him there for the full five minutes, easily winning the round. In the second, Lamzak made a comeback by clinching up and cutting Rizvan with deadly elbows. He continued the punishment in the third round as well. Abdurashidov scored a late takedown attempt, but it wasn't enough to steal the round and the fight.. Result: Lamzak by unanimous decision

Bantamweight Division: Matti Teitsi vs Conor Heatrt

Teitsi tried to get his boxing going, but Heatrt defended well while waiting for the right chance to get a takedown. After a few attempts, he got it and landed in full mount. He transitioned an arm triangle into an anaconda choke and squeezed the life out of Teitsi. Result: Heatrt by 1st round submission (Anaconda Choke)

Light Heavyweight Division: Dave De Decker vs Cuts Alot

De Decker overwhelmed Cuts Alot with his boxing in this one. Cuts Alot tried to keep him at bay with leg kicks, but De Decker was undeterred. He knocked his opponent down with a nice left-right combo, then waved him back to his feet so that he could do it once again, but this time for good. Result: De Decker by 1st round KO (Punches)

Main Card

Bantamweight Division: Danny Lewis vs Dan Love

Danny Lewis showed tremendous takedown defense in this one. Love went for 35 takedowns and Lewis stuffed them all. He countered by clinching up and unleashing some unbelievably efficient dirty boxing. He threw out 114 head and body punches in the clinch and connected on every single one of them. At the end of the night, the judges were left with only one possible conclusion.  Result: Lewis by unanimous decision

Middleweight Division: Eliod Bunkley Iii vs Hazuka Oyama

Back at HERO 6, Bunkley was able to defeat Oyama by 3rd round submission. This fight was a different story. Oyama defended the takedowns well and returned fire with some big shots. One of them clipped Bunkley and put him back on his heels. Oyama followed up with a nice right hand that turned out the lights on Bunkley. Result: Oyama by 1st round KO (Punches)

Middleweight Division: Christian Olson vs Arto Markkanen

Markkanen clinched up early and cut Olson with some big knees. However, that didn't seem to do much more than make Olson mad. He immediately took Markkanen to the mat and started unleasing brutal ground and pound. A combination of elbows and hammerfists rocked Markkanen. Olson kept it up until he saw Markkanen's body go limp. Result: Olson by 1st round KO (Strikes)

Co-Main Event

Light Heavyweight Division: Banka Jansson vs Jaarko Hahlund

The first round was spent mostly in the clinch, where Hahlund landed a big knee and cut Jansson on the way to winning the round. Jansson turned things around in the second, though. He kept the fight at a distance by mixing a lot of kicks into his attack. One of these kicks landed flush on Hahlund's head. Even though Hahlund was still technically conscious, the ref waved it off to save Hahlund from unnecessary shots. Result: Jansson by 2nd round TKO (Head Kick)

Main Event

HERO Welterweight Championship: Rauta Naama vs Jake Shields

The first round of this championship fight was close. Shields got a takedown and was more active on the ground, but Naama was the more effective striker. The second round was looking very similar. Shields got another takedown, however Naama quickly swept into mount. While Shields was very active on his back, Naama was patient and waited for the right opportunity. Eventually, he got Shields' back and sunk in the rear naked choke with just two seconds remaining in the round.  Result: Naama by 2nd round submission (Rear Naked Choke)
