Willy Stoppers Interview

Global Association of MMA, Fight Organization, London
Company profile by Mentor Guru Corleone

Q1 - Welcome to the GAMMA 565 post fight press conference. Tonight we have had an excellent nights action at Wombley arena brought to you by Voodoo Nutrition. In the Welterweight division we saw Rufus McTearson confirm he is the true champ by successfully defending his belt against ex-champ and last year’s GAMMA fighter of the year Renan St Juste, proving that the last fight wasn't a fluke. Amongst the other fighters on the card we saw GAMMA veteran Willy Stoppers win his second fight in a row, keeping his unbeaten record in the division.
Willy tonight you went the distance against tough opponent Hektor Troy, how do you feel the fight went?

A1 - It was tougher than I expected for sure. I cut him early on, I know Hecktor is prone to cutting and my game plan was to tear him to shreds in the clinch once he started bleeding, but he was a lot better defensively than I gave him credit for. I know he’s got a decent chin, so wasn't expecting to KO him, but was hoping I could stop it through cuts early on. I am happy to get the win though and with my performance overall.

Q2 -  You have recently been taken on by new management with Andy McKenzie after Mentor Corleone dropped you. How have you found the transition?

A2 - Andy has been great, he’s really taken time with me going over my tactics for each fight. Mr Corleone never really took that much time with me. Nothing personal against him, that guys a busy man what with running GAMMA an all, but I felt that he risked  it a lot with me, sometime it worked and sometimes it didn’t. Thats not what I need that this stage of my career, I am not a young prospect anymore. He definitely used me to draw the crowds to GAMMA. The one good thing he did do was get me round to the idea of fighting at 185lbs before he handed me over.

Q3 - Thats a big drop for someone who used to fight at Super heavyweight, how are you finding making the cut, so you feel that you have a disadvantage cutting at your age?

A3 - Not at all, if anything I think it’s easier for me for a couple of reasons.  Firstly, I have all the skills in the bag, I mean you're still always learning, but I have the basics, so I can concentrate on my nutrition. Secondly, I have been doing this for a long time now, I have the discipline, I gave up partying a long time ago. Thirdly I want it, this is realistically my last chance at a title run and I will do what ever it takes to get the shot.

Q4 - Thats great to hear. Where do you see yourself now in the title picture at GAMMA?

A4 - The results speak for themselves! I am there! Look at the rankings. Matt Quinn took the title of Viv Richards, but he’s nowhere to be seen! I see he’s signed for Evolution. I hope he finishes whatever business he has there and comes back and puts his title on the line.

Q5 - We have just heard reports hot off the press that you have been offered a fight against ex-champ Viv Richards, can you tell us if you are going to take it or not?

A5  - Wow! Nothing like being put on the spot. Thats going to be a tough as hell fight. Viv’s manager Whymer is a tactical genius, but yeah, of course I will take it. If I win, I expect to see Matt Quinn man up and get back to GAMMA… I want that belt!

Thanks for chatting to us and congratulations on your win again tonight. We look forward to seeing you again in action at GAMMA 568 in 3 weeks. Good luck and I hope you have an injury free training camp.
