Jay: Hey there, welcome to Ray & Jay's Excellent MMA Adventures. And usually on the show we would be going over the upcoming event but this week by popular demand we are reviewing this past weekends card. Which was an awesome night of fights, I'll tell ya. The event: UPF 39: Hapitchou Vs. McCarthy; the place: Hard Knocks Arena, Hilo HI; the features: 1 title fight, 2 top contenders match ups.

Ray: Yeah what a night it was, I had a great time. Of course, my good friend Jack Daniels could have had a part in that. There were 3000 screaming fans in attendance and among them, sitting ringside I noticed Will Smith and Martin Lawrence.

Jay: Yeah, I think they were in town filming a scene or two from Bad Boys 5. Man don't think it can get any better than Bad Boys 4 though. Great movie. But I think we kinda got off base. So let get back to the task at hand. UPF 39 was brought to you by AnnomyouS in Montreal. But I'm wasting too much time. On to the fights.

Undercard - 185lb - Adam "The Wolf" Wilk (1-1) vs Samuel Nasma (1-2)

Jay:  We opened the night with a middleweight bout between Adam Wilk and Samuel Nasma. The Wolf knew coming into this one that if he wanted to win then he needed to score the takedown, and that's exactly what he did within 30 seconds Wilk took Nasma down and landed in side control. Then it was just a matter of time before the blue belt, if he didn't get the escape, was then forced to tap by the brown belt. Wilk had such an impressive showing that it won the the Sub of the Night award.

Winner - Adam Wilk by submission (americana) at 1:57 of round 1 - SotN

Undercard - 135lb - Cario "Quinque" Angelus (2-0) vs Uzlester "The Messiah " Mangum (0-1)

Ray: The undefeated teenager, Angelus, continues to impress. He came in punching hard and punching often, landing a high percentage of his punches. Meanwhile, Mangum knew he didn't stand a chance in the stand up and was desperately trying to take it to the mat. With 3 failed takedowns, Mangum was no match for the power display that Angelus put on and Angelus scored a beautiful 47 second TKO.

Winner - Cario Angelus by TKO (strikes) at 0:47 of round 1.

Undercard - 170lb - Snake Jackson (5-4) Vs Hammer "Thumper" Hands (9-10)

Jay: That quick fight was followed by a welterweight match up. Jackson had confidence in himself when accepting a fight against a noticeably higher skilled fighter and came out strong securing the takedown quickly.

But one has to wonder if Hands allowed the takedown to happen because once on the ground Thumper went to work trying to lock onto a submission. Landing the ground and pound in the process Snake was cut open. Hands then started to focus on that cut. In the third round the cut was so bad that I think Will Smith actually got splattered by Snake's blood. And the doctor eventu
ally had no choice but to step in and stop the fight before any permanent damage was done.

Winner - Hammer Hands by TKO (cut) at 2:55 of round 3.

Undercard - 155lb - Billy "Deep" Bush (10-5) vs "ill" Will Jones (4-2)
Ray: In a fight that was hyped to be fight of the week, this was somewhat disappointing. Will Jones was almost flawless in his attacks. While, Billy Bush was ineffective and looked totally outmatched. It took less than 2 minutes for Jones to knock Bush senseless. Bush was so far gone that even after the ref stopped it he thought it was still going and tackled the ref, which drew cheers and laughter from the crowd. An astonishing 1:51 TKO for Jones.

Winner - Will Jones by TKO at 1:51 of round 1.

Maincard - 265+lb - Abe "Jötunn" De Vries (8-3) Vs Pittsburgh Steelers (4-3)

Jay: De Vries and Steelers. It was an awesome fight. A very exciting first round saw Steelers cut open, a little bit of a clinch game, and a big head kick resulting in a knock down of De Vries, but Steelers waved him back to his feet. And round 1 finished very close with Steelers gaining the edge due to the knock down. But I don't think that minute between rounds was enough for Abe to recover and around 8 seconds into the second round Steelers drops De Vries with a hook to the temple and then again with a brutal head kick and that was lights out for De Vries.

Winner - Pittsburgh Steelers by KO (Head Kick) at 0:17 of round 2.
Maincard - 155lb - "General Butt Naked" Joshua Blahyi (7-1) vs Combo "Striker" King (5-7)
Ray: There is a lot of bad blood between these fighters. I'm not sure exactly what it's about. But...
Jay: Well from what I've heard, they were actually best friends when they were younger but that all changed when Combo King found out that, according to rumors, Joshua was sticking it to his mother. Yep he was shagging her good!
Ray: Well that explains it, because when the bell rang Combo looked like he had murder on his mind, he immediately clinched up and started pounding away, cutting him and rocking him early, Blahyi did manage to pull guard but King instantly escaped and got back to his feet and continued with his flawless attacks. It wasn't long before the ref was forced to stop it. A nice TKO victory at 2:10 of the very first round. Let's just hope Blahyi learned his lesson about messing around with his best friends mom.
Winner - Combo King by TKO (strikes) at 2:10 of round 1.
Maincard - 135lb - Joe Washington (6-2) vs Lucky Day (9-9)
Jay: A little fun fact for you; Joe Washington is actually a direct descendant of the first president of the United Stated of America, George Washington. Joe's great great, a bunch of greats, grandmother was a slave to the president. So that's where he gets his fighting spirit from. Now the current Washington just made his debut at UPF against Lucky Day. And it was quite a showing for a debut too. The bell rang and Day instantly took it to the mat. But that didn't phase Joe though as he just used the cage to climb back to his feet and into the clinch and started putting on the pressure. With a flawless clinch performance by Washington before he broke the clinch and connected with a massive uppercut that lifted Lucky Day off his feet before sending him crashing to the mat. The day was obviously not a lucky day for Lucky Day. Joe impressed management enough to earn KO of the Night honors.
Winner - Joe Washington by KO (punch) at 1:36 of round 1 - KOotN
Maincard - 170lb - "Bate Pepo" Peter Angelov (7-3) vs Matt "the wizard" Lethal (5-3)
Ray: Lethal used his height advantage very well in this one. Angelov expended all of his energy trying to clinch. Meanwhile Lethal was landing cross' and jabs. Angelov was cut early and Lethal, like a puma lying in wait, pounced throwing jab after jab targeting the cut. As the blood started to flow I knew this one wasn't going to last much longer. The cut continued to get worse and the doc call it with only one second left in the round. Now normally, I would say let the cut man have a shot at it between rounds instead of stopping it with only one second left, but Angelov really didn't have a chance in this one, it was a good stoppage. Another TKO win for Lethal.
Winner - Matt Lethal by TKO (cut) at 4:59 of round 1.
Co-Main Event - 205lb - Beach Bum (10-3) vs "Cardinal" Luis Cardoza (6-2)
Jay: The UPF's former light-heavyweight champion, Beach Bum is any but a Bum. He has some awesome submission skills but so does Luis. Both fighter have almost all their win via submission so it didn't surprise me when this one went to the mat. As the fight started, Bum managed to give Luis a little cut, so Luis took it down. And after an insane Jui Jitsu match the round came to an end. The ringside announcer suggested that Bum barely edged out the first round. Round two was much like the first, this time with Bum getting the takedown and Luis coming out on top at the end of the round. So after two rounds, several reversals, 5 submission attempts it appeared these two were very evenly matched. Then in the third, a few failed takedown attempt really sapped the energy from Cardoza and Beach Bum landed a quick double leg takedown landing into guard. Without the energy Luis couldn't stop Bum from advancing to half guard where he slapped on a Kimora and wrenched Cardoza's arm forcing the tap.
Winner - Beach Bum by submission (Kimora) at 2:59 of round 3.
Main Event - 135lb Title Fight - "Big Trouble" PePe Hapitchou (11-3) vs Cormac McCarthy (6-2)
Ray: These two guys are real showmen. And what a show they put on, you could feel the electricity in the air as they made their entrances amid an over the top fireworks display. As I understand it, the entire display was orchestrated by the fighters themselves and not by the UPF. As the fighters climbed into the cage, I could tell that the fans were in for a treat as both fighters looked very determined. The fight went the full five rounds, and it was five rounds of all out war! This fight had it all; in and out of the clinch, on the mat, and striking from range, no surprises it ended up the Fight of the Night! The straight (He is definitely NOT gay, trust me) PePe, ended up taking the decision but it was a lot closer than the scorecard suggested. PePe dominated the second and the fifth round and the other three were all very close. In fact, on my own scorecard I had McCarthy taking the first and the fourth round and the third round as a draw. In what turned out to be an amazing fight, PePe took the decision and remained the UPF's bantamweight champion of the world.
Winner - PePe Hipatchou by decision and still the UPF's bantamweight champion of the world - FotN
