Ascension 3 Million Tourney Round 1 Part 1 Preview

Event Preview: Ascension 95 3mil round 1
Ascension
2012-06-23, Los Angeles, University Park
Author:Speedy Gonzaitev

Guess what folks? Its time for the biggest tournament as far as prize money goes put together by a Blitz company to kick off this coming weekend. With fighters coming from all over the globe, who will rise up and win the 3 million dollar grand prize which is only 5 wins away? Only time will tell as we start with round 1 part 1!

Opening fight
Targaryen vs Kingston
We are not getting right to the tourney fights yet as we open the card with a fight in Ascension's openweight division between two strikes who live or die by their striking skills. Targaryen enters the cage with elite boxing, sensational muay thai, wonderful wrestling and a bjj purple belt. Opposing him is Kingston with exceptional boxing, competent muay thai, remarkable wrestling and a bjj purple belt. Targaryen has big time power while Kingston has merely average power. Both fighters however have glass chins so someone is getting KTFO. I think Targaryen will easily turn out Kingston's lights.

Svoboda vs McBobby
Now we go to the first of the 16 first round tournament fights going down this weekend. The striking styling's of McBobby takes on the complete martial artist in Svoboda. Svoboda enters the cage with wonderful boxing, superb muay thai, wonderful wrestling and a bjj brown belt which he has used to end the nights of 2 opponents in hiscareer. Opposing him is McBobby with his exceptional boxing, sensational muay thai, remarkable wrestling and a bjj blue belt. If this fight stays standing I doubt that Svoboda will stay conscious throughout the fight. Both fighters have suspect chins, each being finished multiple times. McBobby either finishes his opponent or gets finished while a bit of everything happens to Svoboda. A tough fight to call but I think Svoboda will win by submission.

Kafka vs Crassus
Now on to the writer of this preview's first of two almost for sure losses on this card as the pride and joy of the much maligned stable of Alexi Zaitev, Viktor Kafka takes center stage to take on Marcus Crassus. Kafka is the most skilled fighter I have trained ever which is rather sad when I think about it. Kafka has sensational boxing, remarkable muay thai, remarkable wrestling and a bjj purple belt. Kafka is also fighting up a weight class here tonight while his opponent is fighting up two weightclasses. Crassus comes in with exceptional boxing, exceptional muay thai, sensational wrestling and a bjj brown belt. Kafka has shown an expanding skill set utilizing more and more take downs in his past fights but he still isn't ready for this competition as Crassus will toy with Kafka on the feet before taking him down and pounding his face in for a TKO win.

The Demon vs Rua
Two middleweights moving up a weight class take the cage for our 4th bout of the evening. The Demon enters the cage with exceptional boxing, sensational muay thai, sensational wrestling and a bjj black belt. Opposing him is Rua with elite boxing and muay thai, wonderful wrestling and a bjj brown belt. This fight will be decided on who can implement their game plan the best. Demon is certainly going to be looking to take this fight to the ground to neutralize the best weapon of Rua which is his double elite striking. Once the fight is on the ground, its Demon's fight to lose. But, I wouldn't be shocked if Demon stood for a little bit with Rua just to test the waters before trying to take the fight to the mat. However, unless Rua lands a big shot, Demon will take this fight.

Batts vs Rivera
Now to our fourth tourney fight of the evening with Batts taking on Rivera. Both fighters love to stand and bang and will certainly put on a show for the fans. Batts enters the cage with sensational boxing, elite muay thai, exceptional wrestling and a bjj brown belt. Opposing him is the middleweight Rivera with his sensational boxing, exceptional muay thai, sensational wrestling and bjj brown belt. Both fighters have big time power in their fists though Rivera is a lot more experienced in long fights so that may come into play. But I expect Batts to come out looking to put Rivera to sleep as soon as possible because that is what he is good at doing. I gonna go with Batts on this one, thinking second round TKO.

O Neill vs Sturd
And now its time for the writer's second almost certain defeat as the grappling artist formerly known as O Neill taking center stage to take on jack of all trades master of none Sturd. O Neill has been through a ringer of late going 1-2-2 in his last 5 fights but managed to get a draw with Shortfuse's super project Luka Beck in his last fight so things may be looking up for him. But he has a nigh on impossible task in Sturd. O Neill has remarkable boxing, proficient muay thai, wonderful wrestling and a bjj black belt which has more victims than Charlie Manson. Sturd combats that with sensational boxing, exceptional muay thai and wrestling and a bjj brown belt. O Neill's only chance is on the mat but getting it there will be difficult against a superior wrestling in Sturd. I expect O Neill to get battered and bruised for 2 rounds before getting Head Kick KO'd in the 3rd round.

Opening Main Card Bout
Santiago vs Apollyon
Its been tough sledding for Apollyon of late dropping his last 2 fights both by T(KO) and his fight tonight is not any easier with his opponent being Santiago. Apollyon is a true middleweight facing off against a bigger man ton ight could present an issue if the fight goes to the ground. Anyway, Santiago enters the cage with sensational boxing, muay thai, wrestling and a brown belt in bjj. Opposing him is Apollyon with hi exceptional boxing and muay thai, remarkable wrestling and a purple belt in bjj. Apollyon's only chance is to crack that chin of Santiago's as well as keeping the fight on the feet, for some reason I doubt that will happen. I expect Santiago to come out and look to take this fight to the ground and pound Apollyon out for the victory.

Featured Main Card Bout
Benoit vs Thomas
Benoit is arguably the best grappler skill wise in the tourney with a very good striking game to match. Thomas is almost exculsively a striker with a defensive ground game. Benoit enters the cage with sensational boxing, remarkable muay thai, elite wrestling and a bjj black belt. Opposing him is Thomas with sensational boxing, exceptional muay thai, wonderful wrestling and a bjj brown belt. Thomas better come out all Wanderlei Silva otherwise he will lose this fight, Benoit is just too good on the ground for Thomas to do anything too stop. Thomas has got to crack the chin of Benoit, which has been cracked 3 times in the past, before Benoit gets a take down. Once Benoit gets that take down, its game over for Thomas. I expect Benoit to submit Thomas and advance to the next round.

Co Main Event
Kenji vs Maddox
Our co main event tonight is arguably the most exciting fight on the card with two big hitters square off looking to put each other to sleep. With a combined 22 TKO wins out of 30 total victories between these two fights, you know somebody's gonna get knocked out in this fight. You wont want to blink during this fight as it can end at any time. Kenji enters the cage with elite boxing, sensational muay thai, exceptional wrestling and a purple belt in bjj. Maddox counters that with sensational boxing, muay thai, wrestling and a purple belt in bjj. I would be surprised if this fight went past the first round. Maddox has never been finished in his 9 fight career while Kenji has been TKO'd 4 times and submitted once. I think Maddox is going to run that TKO number to 5.

Main Event
LeBlanc vs al Din
The former 205 king of Ascension enters the cage once again as one of our main event fighters. Just like the last fight, this fight is going to be a war no matter how long it lasts. 46 career victories between these two fighters, 35 TKO wins. Both fighters have only been stopped once in their career's both times by strikes. On top of that, these fighters are incredibly evenly matched on paper. LeBlanc enters the cage with elite boxing and muay thai, sensationaly wrestling and a bjj brown belt. Opposing him is the former champ al Din with elite boxing and muay thai, exceptional wrestling and a bjj brown belt. This fight is going to be a back and forth war with neither fighter giving an inch in any facet it of the game. I think this fight will be a striking battle almost exclusively, maybe some clinch fighting mixed in but I don't anticipate any grappling in this fight. I think its going to be a razor thin decision win for al Din in this one.

There you have it folks another great card and a truly epic tourney brought to you by the maestros behind the scenes of Ascension! Tune in later this week for the preview for part 2 of the 3 million dollar tournament! This is Alexi Zaitev signing off!
