BAD Judging for Cantrell Willis

Editorial by

Im not one to complain, but this is what i see. Some judging has come under a strange tone.

Such is the case was at
Event: RING WARS 20
Date:   May 12, 2012

when Cantrell Willis lost a controversial decision to Jonathan Sandelos that most everyone outside of the judges sitting ring side believed he won. Ring Wars turned their heads despite the loss being handed to him by the judges.

Cantrell - I was just surprised. I thought I definitely won that fight so till this day I don’t know how judges’ scoring ended up in that way, Willis spoke from The WASPS Nest (2341) from Vegas the next morning. I dont know, I could be wrong but everyone else saw the same thing I did. I mea we all did.

He followed with, Cantrell - There was no big turn around or change in that fight like, for example, (a knock down) but I believe, for anyone with the firm understanding of MMA it was just obvious who won that fight. Yes I got cut, but unless the fight was stopped due to the cut then thats my loss. But none of that. Yet all three judges scored the other way so maybe there is a problem with the judging system and the commentator? Even the announcer was wrong, he would narrate the fight and would totally say the opposite of what was happening.
example:
actual commentator quote - That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sandelos tries to clinch but Willis moves out of range.
Willis looks for the body kick but Sandelos saw that one coming.
Willis throws a wild body kick that Sandelos sees coming a mile off.
Willis (lands) with a slapping head kick.
Sandelos misses with a head kick.
Willis misses with a leg kick.
Sandelos misses with a head kick.
Sandelos moves out of range of the body kick.
Sandelos tries to clinch but Willis is having none of it.
Jonathan Sandelos is (winning) the standup battle so far.

End results of the fight stats - Cantrell = 14pts. vs. Sandelos = 6pts. (more then half)

But regardless of the judging process, in this fight i still considered it uneven and lackluster.

The promoters of Ring Wars believe fighters have been wronged by decisions, but could not do anything. But Cantrell gets a LOSS in his record. I mean for some of us who play the game, something like this cant be taken likely. Even if its just a game.
Organizers, should be held accountable the same way the fighters are when they now have a permanent loss on their record, because of such errors. I strongly believe that, the individual (s) responsible for judging the events should live by the same set of rules as fighters who are penalized by bad decisions, and in this particular case we absolutely believes Cantrell’s win was stolen from him.

It is only the fighter and the manager that is penalized for these (judging) mistakes. Lets say we consider “Octagon control”, “takedowns” and also, if we implement the theory of (If more than 50% of the round was spent on the mat then the fighter who controlled the ground war generally wins the round), As well as the number of strikes landed and of course takedowns.  It easily shows Cantrell was robbed.”

A lot of ideas thrown by out by the fighter and the manager there. We are only hoping that this serves as a lesson and that others may not fall prey to the same issue.
