Welcome to the review of HFC 9! We had just one awesome event with seven fights ending before the final bell. Let’s dive right into it.

Preliminary Bout Number 1- Welterweight Fight (170lbs)

Dario "All-in" Sakara defeats James "The Snake" Chaney

In my opinion this fights was not scored correctly. By all means I am not saying Chaney should have won, but I did not score the second round for him like all three judges did. Throughout the fight Chaney landed several takedowns but once on the ground he looked like a fish out of water doing nothing with any of his takedowns. Sakara was landing strikes throughout the entire fight I was shocked that he didn’t get the finish. All three judges scored the fight 29-28 while I scored it 30-27 in favor of Sakara.

Preliminary Bout Number 2- Middleweight Fight (185lbs)

Dario "The Killer" Silva defeats Gustavo Gracie

Dario Silva put on a show as he was proving that he did not blossom to early. Finaly back on to the winning ways and it was in dominating fashion. Silva refused to go to the ground stuffing all seven of Gracie’s takedown attempts. While standing Silva really mixed his strikes up making it that much tougher on Gracie. Silva really shinned in the clinch though as he landed a ton of knees to the head as well has a few other strikes. Ultimately it was a head kick that stopped Gracie but I think the knees did most of the damage. Silva is declared the winner at 4:16 of the first round by TKO via strikes.

Preliminary Bout Number 3- Bantamweight Fight (135lbs)

Isaiah "Vanilla Gorilla" Ferguson defeats Sun "Kakarot" Wukong

This was one hell of a fight. It was contested almost a hundred percent on the ground. The first round was dominated by Wukong who was looking to end this fight nice and early as he head hunted while maintaining a dominate position. Wukong scored the takedown in the second round early and I was expecting to be exactly right on my prediction but Ferguson just swarmed Wukong with submission attempts. Sun did not have time to do anything but defend submissions. The third round was pretty much the same as the second. Ferguson got taken down early but he became the more aggressive fighter try all kinds of submissions. Wukong was landing big strikes from the top while defending those submissions. At 3:58 of the third round Isaiah Ferguson locked in an armbar from the bottom making Wukong tap out. A very impressive back and forth fight.

Preliminary Bout Number 4- Welterweight Fight (170lbs)

Nathan "Elbow" Summers defeats Takahiro Jouda

Well it’s a good thing that Mr. Summers got the finish since for some crazy reason he was down on the score cards. Summers go the takedown in round one and Jouda quickly transitioned to the top. Jouda then pretty much did nothing but defend submission attempts from the top. The second round was a little different with Jouda getting the takedown, but then it was rinse and repeat Jouda does nothing as Summers tries to finish. Summers scored a takedown to start the round in the third. Once on the ground Jouda even though he was down on the cards attempting a few submissions and looking to finishes the fight. Very late in the round Summers was able to get an armbar locked on from the bottom and he then rolled through to really crank the arm. At 4:59, yes one second to go in the fight Jouda taps out to that armbar giving Nathan Summers the big hard fought victory.

Preliminary Bout Number 5- Welterweight Fight (170lbs)

Taylor "woob woob woob" Clark defeats Jan David

This is the exact reason I could not ever open a bookmaking company. All David had to do was take this fight to the ground and work some ground and pound. That is all and he would have won this fight with ease. In the first round he looked to counter a lot while he got his face used as a punching bag. Zero take down attempts from David in that round and also in round two. I see a theme here as David looked to counter, got his face beat in and did not look for a takedown. I wonder if that could happen three rounds in a row? Yes it can as Clark dominated another round while David did a poor job of countering and he did not attempt a take down. All three judges scored it the same for the winner Taylor Clark 30-27.

Main Card Bout Number 1- Welterweight Fight (170lbs)

Artur "Iceman" Ross defeats "Mangeur de bine" Adelard Desormeaux

Ross hooked up a clinch in the early part of round number one but Adelard was able to pull guard. Adelard then worked an awesome ground game looking to finish the fight. Desormeaux clearly won the round. Off to round two Ross stayed away from the clinch for about a minute. He was mixing up some nice range strikes but then got the body lock. Ross did not allow Adelard to pull guard this time showing off his strength. Ross just went to town on Adelard once he realized he was not going back to the mat. A huge knee sends Desormeaux to the ground where Ross finished up with punches. The official decision Arthur Ross wins at 3:18 of round number two by TKO do to knee and punches.

Main Card Bout Number 2- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

"Knifeman" Brett Riverboat defeats "Wrecked" Stew Sauced

I thought Sauced had a bigger heart than he really does. Riverboat had the advantage in this fight but I still went with Sauced to pull out the big win in the closing seconds of the third round. It didn’t even make it that far. These fighters landed a similar number of strikes but Riberboat’s seemed so much stiffer than Sauced. Stew did hold his own from range despite being split open. Riverboat then took the fight to the clinch where Sauced was completely out classed and matched. It didn’t take long from the clinch for Riverboat to put Sauced away. Riverboat wins the fight via TKO do to strikes at 4:49 of the first round.

Main Card Bout Number 3- Welterweight Title Fight (170lbs)

"Veliki" Ljuti Hrcak defeats Rock "Taijutsu" Lee

Lee did exactly what I said he would do. He prevented Hrcak from scoring a takedown with seven successful defenses. He also pounded away at Hrcak mostly from the inside during a clinch. While Hrcak was trying to get his last takedown in Lee nailed him with a massive right sending him to the ground. Lee jumped on top looking to finish but was surprised by Hrcak playing some opossum. Hrcak put Lee in a Guillotine choke and Lee tapped out at 2:50 of the first round making Veliki Hrcak the new Welterweight Champion.

Co Main Event Main Card Bout Number 4- Middleweight Fight (185lbs)

"Uszol" Rafal Dabrowski defeats "Al Capone" Vanden Plas

I thought this fight might end up on the mat but neither fighter even tried a takedown. Both seemed to be in the mood to strike but Plas was not throwing any bombs. More just little test feelers out looking to set up kicks. Dabrowski also mixed a few kicks in but he was really looking for the home run punch. Right after the first minute passed Dabrowski just went for it throwing a ton of bombs at Plas. A big one landed and stumbled Plas and then Rafal followed it up with a straight right which ended the fight. The official decision Vanden Plas wins by knockout via punch at 1:57 of the first round.

Main Event Main Card Bout Number 5- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

Calvin Johnson defeats James "Java Man" Avalon

How did this fight go to decision? Seriously so many combined TKO between the two of them and Johnson as no chin. Avalon stayed busy the entire fight landing several shots but Johnson was able to utilize a ton of leg kicks which kept him out of the clinch for most of the fight. Even though Johnson pretty much took away the clinch I am still shocked that Avalon couldn’t get the finish. In the late part of round number three even took the fight to the ground and then started trying to submit Johnson. Johnson clearly won round one, round two was close but I gave it to Johnson, and round three was Avalon’s round. All three judges agree with me and this fight is ruled in favor of Calvin Johnson by way of unanimous decision.

Well there it is guys and gals. I hope you enjoy the review and join me tomorrow for the preview of Wednesday Warfare IX.
