Event Preview: Barbarian FC 8
Barbarian Fight Club (ID 230K+)
2014-03-15, Rio de Janeiro, Hayashi's Lounge - Rio
Author:Tony Rossi

Well this certainly feels strange. This will be the first event I have done for Barbarian Fight Club in a long time that was not title focused. All of the tournaments have now finished and we are back to normal business. I am sure we will start getting title fights signed in the near future but as of right now we don’t. The only changes made for this event was the fact that there was not tile implications. Barbarian Betting will still be hosting odds for all of our events, as well as some UFC events. Also MANGO nutrition is still our event partner. So since not all that much has changed lets dive into this event.

Preliminary Bout Number 1- Middleweight Fight (185lbs)

Roberto "KilleR" Nascimento (0-0) {0-0} versus Leonardro "The Anaconda " Souza (1-1) {1-1}

Roberto is a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and he will be making his professional fighting debut. He will need to get this fight to the ground and he will need to do it quickly since he does not have any stand up. If he can get the fight to the ground he should be in great shape but the problem will be getting the fight to the ground. Souza is one and one and he is coming off a loss by submission. He will need to avoid the ground as much as possible since we all know he can be tapped out. If he can keep this fight standing he should dominate the fight. While I think Souza does do some serious damage to Roberto I think this fight will hit the floor and Roberto will pick up the win by submission in the first round.

Preliminary Bout Number 2- Lightweight Fight (155lbs)

Daniel "Danny" Willians (1-1) {1-0} versus Jose Pablo "Cactus" Joaquin (1-2) {0-2}

Well these two have gone in the opposite direction since signing on with BFC. Willians showed up with zero wins and one loss and now he is one and one. He will be looking to stay off the ground and in the clinch in this fight to get his streak to two. Joaquin was one and o when he joined BFC and now he is one and two current on the two fight losing streak. He is overmatched in the stand up and his wrestling is nowhere near Danny’s. He will still need to find a way to get this fight to the ground where he can use his superior Jiu Jitsu skills. I think Joaquin gets knocked out before he can get Willians to the ground. I got Danny winning by TKO in the first round.

Preliminary Bout Number 3- Light Heavyweight Fight

Noob Saibot (2-0) {2-0} versus Nestor "Toro" Gonzalez (2-1) {1-1}

Saibot has won both of his fights since coming into the BFC. He is currently two and o in his professional career but he needs to start fighting better competition. He could be a fast riser if he can keep on winning and he takes on some of the higher ranked fighters. Gonzalez is one and one in BFC and he is coming off a loss. He will want to get this fight to the ground if he wants to win this fight since he will be outmatched in the striking. I don’t think Nestor will be able to get this fight to the ground because of Saibot’s amazing striking. I got Saibot to win by knockout in the first round of this fight.

Preliminary Bout Number 4- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

Chryst Halo (3-0) {1-0} versus Nasty Murdock (2-1) {0-1}

Halo was impressive in his debut winning by knockout only one and a half minutes into the first round. That fight brought his overall record up to three and o with all three wins coming by way of knockout. He will be standing with Murdock in this fight so he needs to make sure that his boxing is sharp in this one. Murdock lost his only BFC fight by submission to the future of the Light Heavyweight division Abraham Kurse. He will want to spring back from that loss with a big win. Since he knows that this fight will be standing instead of on the ground he should be brushing up on his kicks to keep the boxer at bay. This should be a great fight and it is really hard to pick a winner but I am going to go with Nasty Murdock to win by TKO in the second round.

Preliminary Bout Number 5- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

Roberto "Crasy" Maia (3-0) {2-0} versus Mauricio "Mancha" Moura (2-2) {1-1}

Maia is undefeated and he has submitted everyone who has faced him. All three of those submission wins came in the first round so he likes to work fast. He will be looking to get the fight to the ground where he will be able to control the fight. Moura is a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu just like Maia but he lacks the wrestling that Maia has. We have yet to see Moura get submitted but if someone can do it my money would be on Maia. This fight will obviously go to the ground and I think Maia comes out on top by submission in the first round.

Main Card Bout Number 1- Bantamweight Fight (135lbs)

Carlos "Ocelote" Rodriguez (4-0) {3-0} versus Sherlock "Sherry" Holmes (2-0) {0-0}

We will kick off the main card with two undefeated one hundred and thirty five pounders. Rodriguez is the real deal with four wins in which three of them have come from BFC. All four of his wins have also come by knockout so we know he has power. Holmes is also undefeated but this will be his debut in BFC. Both of Holmes wins have come by submission as the brown belt has been living up to his reputation as a great BJJ guy. His problem in this fight will come in the wrestling department. If he can’t get Rodriguez down he will not be able to win this fight. I don’t think he will get the take down he needs so I am picking Rodriguez to win by knockout in the first round.

Main Card Bout Number 2- Lightweight Fight (155lbs)

"The Game Changer" James Granger (4-3) {0-0} versus Marcelo "O Tigre" Silva (1-0) {0-0}

This battle of recent BFC signees will be contested on the ground and I am sure of that. Granger has great wrestling and a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu purple belt to along with it. He has four wins three by submission and one by decision. His key in this one will be to out wrestle his opponent. Silva is one and o and his win came via submission. Silva has the better Jiu Jitsu as he is a brown belt, but will he be able to get the positions he needs? I don’t think so, so I will be going with Granger to win because I think this fight is going the distance and his wrestling is going to win it for him.

Main Card Bout Number 3- Super Heavyweight Fight (265+)

Chris "Banana" Henderson (5-0) {0-0} versus Kamekona "The Shrimp Truck" Tupuola (2-2) {2-2}

Henderson has been very impressive so far in his career. He has amassed a five and o record with all five wins coming by knockout. Also in all five of his fights he has finished his opponent in the first round. This hard hitting boxer better have some good take down defense if he wants to keep his streak alive. Tupuola is on a two fight win streak that started after he started off his career with two losses. He lost by submission and knockout before winning fights by decision and a TKO. I honestly think Henderson is the better fighter while Tupuola has faced much better competition. I think Tupuola can win this fight on that alone, but to be safe I am picking Henderson. I got TKO in the first round and the winner Chris Henderson.

Co Main Event Main Card Bout Number 4- Welterweight Fight (170lbs)

Dustin "Gannicus" Clare (5-2) {2-2} versus Rajesh "Raj" Koothrappali (3-1-1) {3-1-1}

This is a very interesting matchup coming from the best division in the BFC. This fight could determine who gets the first title shot at Welterweight. Like I said it could, I do not have any behind the scene information on this it is strictly a guess. If Clare wins I could see him getting the next shot. He has only lost to Chiamaka Congo which he lost to him twice. Congo went on to fight for the title but Christopher Newton won that fight. Now if Rajesh wins the fight I don’t think it makes him the number one guy. The only two fights he did not win where against Christopher Newton. I think Raj needs at least two more wins before he gets another shot at Newton. So the question now is who wins this fight? Well Raj lost to Newton who is a great grappler, and Clare has beaten every grappler put in front of him. Since both of these guys fight on the ground taking that last stat in to mind I am going to pick Clare to win this fight by submission in the second round.

Main Event Main Card Bout Number 5- Middleweight Fight (185lbs)

Andrei "Sapo" Saintclair (5-0) {4-0} versus Roberts "White Bear" Junior (3-1) {3-0}

We had to know that these two where on a collision course with each other. Both of these guys are brown belts in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and they both have wrestling to go with it. Also both of these fighters are undefeated in Barbarian Fight Club and they have combined for seven wins six by way of submission. It is hard to say who is going to win a fight when they are so similar in age, record, skill set, and strategy. I am going to have to go by strength of the corner and while both of these guys have great managers I am going to go with Saintclair because his manager has a bit more experience. I know all these fights end by submission but I don’t think either one of these guys can finish the other so I say decision with Saintclair edging it out.

Even though there was not tournament going on we still got a little title talk in. This is certainly setting up for a terrific event I certainly can’t wait to see it. I will be watching and the fight I am most looking forward to is Clare versus Rajesh. So long for now and I will see you for the preview of Barbarian Fight Time 6.
