HBGG to Open Up New Divisions for More Diversity

Editorial by "Krimzn" Guns McKenzie

Much of the success of the HBGG has come from the most elite grapplers in the world competing for the ultimate prize, a chance at their division’s gold.  With guys like Rowan Atkinson, Ivan Lavronenko and Judge Holden leading the way, new guys looking to become grappling champions are left with very little hope of ever having the strap around their waist.  The way the current divisions are built, this is seemingly impossible, but with McKenzie at the helm, he’s turned impossible to done.

“We’ve wanted to open up new divisions for a little while and with all the hype surrounding TWGC, now seems like the perfect opportunity to do it.  We’ll have a brand new Lightweight [Newcomers] Division for grapplers under 155lbs.  This [Newcomers] division will be restricted to fighters registered over 220k and allow grapplers who are up and coming to have a place to do battle in.”

But that’s not the only thing he had in mind.  Also to join the [Newcomers] division, will be the addition of the Tournament Division.  This tournament division will add a little depth to the current division by incorporating a belt ranking for tournament wins.

“The Tournament Division is strictly HBGG only.  Fighters will earn tournament points (TP) and those points will be used to determine your belt ranking within the HBGG.  A guy will be able to walk around and boast that he’s an HBGG Black Belt because he’s earned it.  We only have the best of the best grapplers here and what will distinguish them even more will be the tournament wins.”

The introduction of these new divisions will probably spread the current divisions pretty thin but in the long run, it makes more sense to do so.  With more talent jumping into the grappling mix, HBGG will soon be recognized as the premiere organization for any grappler to compete in.
