Adonis Stevenson

Fighter profile of Adonis Stevenson by

Adonis Stevenson (born 22 September 1977 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti) is a Haitian-bornCanadian professional boxer, who goes by the nickname "Superman". Although Stevenson usually fights as a super middleweight, as of June 8, 2013 he is the reigning Lineal,WBC and The Ring light heavyweight champion. Stevenson won those titles from former champion Chad Dawson in his adopted hometown of Montreal.

In the amateur, he was Quebec Middleweight champion in 2004, best amateur fighter of the country in 2005-2006, and he also grabbed the Canada national title in 2005 and 2006. Stevenson competed in the XVIII Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia in 2006 and won the silver medal losing to Local Australian, Jarrod Fletcher in the final. It was also the only medal a Canadian boxer received at the games.

He has a record of 33-5 in amateur contests and a record of 24-1-0 in professional contest.

For years, it was rumored that Stevenson was arrested during his late teenage years for pimping and assaulting underage girls. Stevenson admitted to serving 18 months in a Bordeaux jail on charges of managing prostitutes, assault and making threats. His belated public confession answers the basic questions, but he failed to elaborate on whether he received professional treatment for his bizarre behaviour. Jail time isn't considered the best therapy for someone convicted of peddling sex, assault and making threats. He now lives with his girlfriend of four years and their two children in Longueuil, a suburb of Montreal.
