UPF-M 17: Espada vs Jaa is an upcoming mixed martial arts event to be held by Ultimate Pit Fighting – Montreal on October 5, 2013 live at The Expo in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Background

Fenix Espada claimed the vacant middleweight championship when he defeated Anthony Becerra. On September 14, Fenix became the first UPF-M champion to successfully defend his title. Will he claim his second title defense here? Or will Tien Jaa upset the young champion?

Official Fight Card

-[Middleweight Championship bout]: Fenix Espada(c) (6-0) vs Tien Jaa(1) (7-5)

-[Preview]: Middleweight champion Fenix Espada is a head kick specialist that wants nothing more than to go foot-to-face with every challenger that comes his way. His opponent, Tien Jaa, is a Muay Thai stylist as well. Tien Jaa isn't afraid to throw kicks with anyone but his true passion is fighting in the clinch. The knees of Jaa are truly a force to be reckoned with.

-[Middleweight bout]: Thomas Hooke(3) (4-1) vs Anthony Becerra(9) (2-2)

-[Preview]: Former title challenger Thomas Hooke has fought a who's who of the middleweight division. After stopping fellow elite striker James Van Der Sluijs, he fell short when he faced the undefeated middleweight champion. His desire is to rebound with a dramatic performance and get his name back into the title picture. To do that, he will need to get through a truly top flight wrestler. Anthony Becerra is ground and pound stylist that throws thunder from the dominant position. Seven of the combined nine fights between these two men have ended within the first round. Don't blink as these two destructive forces collide!

-[Heavyweight bout]: Sean Coleman(2) (4-1) vs Paso Leati(n/r) (4-1)

-[Preview]: Wrestling sensation Sean Coleman will look to rebound from his first career loss when he faces the extremely well rounded Paso Leati. Whereas Coleman is focused on bringing the fight to the ground to open up his ground and pound, Leati is happy on the feet slapping you with strikes or on the ground hunting for submissions.

-[Heavyweight bout]: Ivan Vanko(1) (7-6) vs Siyar Buhardazada(n/r) (5-7)

-[Preview]: Ivan Vanko is a high level Brazilian Jujitsu practitioner. In addition to possessing some of the best submissions at heavyweight, he has great ground and pound as well. Siyar Buhardazada is a submission fighter as well but he has an edge in the standup department.

-[Light-heavyweight bout]: Dark Deeds(3) (3-2) vs Milan Michalek(n/r) (5-4)

-[Preview]: Dark Deeds is knocking on the door to a likely shot at the light-heavyweight title with another impressive performance here. He made short work of top contender Mickey Manderlin, knocking him out in brutal fashion. Milan Michalek isn't gonna make it easy for him, however. Milan is a high level kickboxer with a respectable ground game as well.

-[Heavyweight bout]: Tyheri Lafleche(n/r) (3-2) vs Ryan Starner(n/r) (5-2)

-[Preview]: Brazilian Jujitsu meets boxing in this classic striker-versus-grappler match-up. Tyheri Lafleche is truly a submission specialist that has fought all of his fights in the regional QFC circuit. Ryan Starner made a name for himself in the New York based N.W.O organization.

-[Heavyweight bout]: Shawn Bhaltair(8) (4-3) vs Trygve Bondevik(n/r) (7-6)

-[Preview]: Shawn Bhaltair is a grappler that utilizes a ground and pound style of attack to set up submissions. Trygve Bondevik is a submission fighter as well that has displayed a moderate level of standup in addition to his grappling skills.

-[Lightweight bout]: Zeus Jupiter(n/r) (2-1) vs Benson Henderson(n/r) (0-3)

-[Preview]: Boxing meets Jujitsu as the submission fighter, Zeus Jupiter, faces the striker Benson Henderson.

-[Light-heavyweight bout]: James Howlett(n/r) (0-1) vs Alexander Georges(n/r) (1-2)

-[Preview]: Both of these guys are grapplers so expect this one to go to the ground. Of the two of them, Georges has found some success whereas Howlett will be in his second professional fight.

-[Light-heavyweight bout]: Andreas Peterson(n/r) (0-3) vs Justin Johnson(n/r) (0-4)

-[Preview]: In a battle of two guys who have never won a professional fight, one of them has to win, right? I mean... they won't fight to a draw, right?
