 BFT - 234 Review

Lightweight - Former BFT Lightweight Title Challenger and Muy Thai advocate Suchart "Fishbowl" Chaowanungkarn knocked out 3 time BFT Submission of the Night winner and Sydney's local Jacob Smith with strikes at 51 seconds in the second round.

Smith was quick to move things into the clinch, but Suchart was comfortable there. He was landing knees and elbows quite well and was able to open up a cut right on Smith's temple. Smith decided he had enough of that and dragged the fight to the ground. Smith was able to hold "Fishbowl" down and really work him over. He worked on submissions, but he lost positioning while going for an omoplata and Suchart ended up on top until the round ended. The second round got started and Chaowanungkarn had a fire lit under him. He moved it into the clinch and was going back to his elbows and knees. He landed a huge knee that really rocked Smith. He kept on him with the Muy Thai and used a solid right hook to send him down.

What's next for "Fishbowl"? With 4 fights in a row, he could very well be looking at the title holder. I don't think so, however. "Stoneface" Vimes is available for a rematch from their fight 6 months prior. I'd also say that Spar Bjj would bring a gigantic fight to him.

Heavyweight - Former FFC Heavyweight Champion Brett "The Threat" Gray knocked out the native Frenchman and former Tetragrammaton and TCA Heavyweight Champion "Leonidas" Diziz Sparta with strikes at 1:57 in round 2.

Sparta was looking hot on the feet. He was charging forward and really bringing the agression to Gray. They hit the clinch and things slowed down while there, but Gray stayed in there, he hung in there and dove for the takedown. He was comfortable working on the ground with Sparta and really showed his stuff. The second round started and Gray dove right back onto the mat. He worked over some ground and pound and tried to open up a kimura. He couldn't get it but worked back on the ground and pound. He was able to get Sparta finished with the ground and pound from the half gaurd.

What's next for Brett? I feel like fight with another guy who recently beat Sparta, Nathan Cadge, would be a great match-up. They are really close on just about all aspects of the game and it would be just a barn burner. Otherwise, Frank Mir would also bring a solid fight. He also brings a close fight in all aspects of the game.

Co-Main - Welterweight - One time BFT KO of the Night winner and finisher in 8 of 10 victories "Rush" Georges St Pierre TKO'ed 5 time BFT Fight of the Night Winner and former DUFF Welterweight Title Challenger Renee "The Ragin' Cajun" Mondeux with a cut at 3:28 in the first round.

At the distance, Mondeux tried to bright the fight to the ground, but it was to no avail, so St. Pierre brought the fight into the clinch. He used an onslaught of elbows to really open up Renee. It looked like someone took a cleaver to the face of Mondeux. By the time the 9th elbow, the doctor really needed to get in there and look at the cut. It was unfortunate for Mondeux that the fight needed to end, but Georges really was hot tonight.

What's next for the Quebec native? Chumba Wumba would be great. They have similar records and I think his stand up would really bring a good fight to St. Pierre. Otherwise, we got two guys who could challenger Georges on the ground: Hussak Claw and Damian Nitschke.

Main Event - Lightweight - Two time BFT Fight of the Night Winner Malaipet "The Diamond" Sasiprapa Unanimous Decisioned the former BFT Lightweight Champion "Mace" Enrico Mazzarri.

Mazzarri was looking pretty good on the feet, landing some solid shots, before Sasiprapa caught him off gaurd and brought the fight to the mat. Even off his back, Mazzarri looked like he wasn't that uncomfortable. Sasiprapa didn't really put on much of an offensive combination together, so the ref stood them up. But Sasiprapa was able to take the fight back to the ground. They spent the final minute standing, and Sasiprapa really put together some great combinations and walked away knowing that the round was his. The second round got started and Mazzarri was swinging like crazy. Sasiprapa was able to stick to his round one plan and took him down once more. The ref still thought Sasiprapa was too inactive and stood them up. Things were rough again at the feet until Mazzarri mixed things up and took the fight to the ground. Neither fighter did much there and they ended up standing once more. They began to trade and Sasiprapa really opened up. He looked a lot more comfortable and his striking was making inpacts on Mazzarri. Mazzarri was still able to land some nice shots. Sasiprapa was able to get a takedown just before the buzzer at the end of the round. The third round got started ans Sasiprapa really rocked Mazzarri with a head kick. Mazzarri was able to cover up and recover, but not THAT much. Sasiprapa really had his number. Sasiprapa wanted to confidently walk away with the round and got one last takedown. Mazzarri was trying to end the fight at all costs, and even went up for a last ditch submission at the end there, but it was to no avail/ Sasiprapa was able to walk away from the fight with another 'W' on his record.

What's next for "The Diamond"? It's hard not to imagine a Title Shot in the near future for Sasiprapa. The only other foreseeable fight would be with Johnny Woo if he makes his way through Suneet Chandler, but I'm not entirely certain he would take that fight with the oppurtunity to fight for the title rapidly approaching.
