HEROIC
2013-09-07, London, The H2O Arena
Author:

Hello again itsa me “Sunshine” Weston Markson along with my co host Rudy “The Box” Knife.  We are here in HMMA’s studio once again to do a preview show of Saturday’s fight card.  HMMA 106 is going to be a massive card with all but one champion defending their titles, nearly every fighter on this card is ranked in the top 10 we expect insane action for the 20,000 fans that will pack the arena and thousands live on PPV to witness.

Rudy:  Weston this is most likely going to be another record breaking event on Saturday, I think most if not all HMMA and London records will fall once this card is in the books.  These are the best of the best the ones who know how to put on a show and rarely if ever disappoint their fans so get ready for some great action.

MAIN EVENT

#2 Fedor "Cannon" Vladimirov (16-5) v  #1/C "Boran" Muay Thai (25-10)

Weston:  The main event of HMMA 106 is a heavyweight clash between former two time champion Fedor Vladimirov and current champion and P4P best fighter in HMMA Muay Thai.  Muay Thai enters this fight on a five fight win streak, having never lost in HMMA, and after successfully defending his title against the former longtime champion he took it from.   After winning the title by majority decision Thai set out to prove the doubters wrong, he wanted to show everyone that he did earn the victory and was truly the better fighter, in the rematch he came out and got the (T)KO win proving all the naysayers wrong and showing he is the undisputed heavyweight champion.  Now the 8th ranked heavyweight in the world is ready to prove again he is the champion and one of the best heavyweights in all of MMA.  Fedor Vladimirov comes into this fight the former two time champion,  never successfully defending his title Fedor is out to prove something, he can still be a champion and can successfully defend the title, if he gets the win here he will have the chance to do what he has not done yet.  Vladimirov has had  a tough path back to becoming #1 contender for the title, he had to defeat two top 10 fighters and a former challenger looking to get another shot as well in Freeman Blackford.  If Vladimirov wins this fight he will become the first ever 3 time heavyweight champion in HMMA.

Rudy:  Holy shit don’t blink this fight could be over in a flash.  No I mean it this fight may actually end before you can even take a picture of the action.   What we have here is two of the best knockout finishers in the entire world of MMA.  Combined they have a knockout finishing rate of nearly 85%, and a total of 34 knockouts.   Yep this one is going to be pretty easy to paint a picture in your head, neither man have ever went for a takedown and rarely use the clinch, expect both fighters to stand at striking range and trade shots until one goes out cold.  What a great fight this is going to be two amazing fighters with accuracy landing in the mid and high 60%’s with their total strikes two fighters with world class standup skills, and two heavyweights with vicious KO power….So who takes it?

Prediction:  Until the champion losses in HMMA ill keep picking him, Muy Thai by TKO

CO-MAIN EVENT

#1/C "Go" Phukyorselvf Uzannavabizch (25-5-1) v #2  Noel Smith (24-10)

Weston:  The CO-MAIN EVENT is the Light-heavyweight title fight between PU, and challenger Noel Smith.  PU is fresh off his title victory over former champion Nate Barnes, this his first title defense which he hopes to be a successful one.  PU has the chance to start another legendary run that the LHW division has not seen for a while.   So far PU has looked unbeatable having won all three of his HMMA fights his challenger has also never lost in HMMA, having won both of his trips to the HMMA cage Noel Smith has found himself earning a shot at the title.  With two big wins over recently 3rd ranked Zoran Miloshevich, and the former champion KPP Smith has garnered enough attention and expectations as a possible champion.

Rudy:  I am really excited for this fight, I want to see if PU can stick around as champion or if someone else may end up doing that.  The LHW title has been passed around as of late and a dominant champion could give everyone else something to work for.    On paper this is a great fight both of these guys are well rounded and like to mix up their attacks.  In his last fight PU showed an unused part of his game when he submitted the then champ Nate Barnes.  He may need that improved ground game against Smith who has been known to use his striking game to set up his takedowns, he averages 4 takedown attempts per fight and lands about 35% of his takedowns.  His striking game consists of a solid boxing attack where he lands a lower percentage of strikes in the mid 50s% of his total strikes.  This is where PU usually dominates.  PU lands around 60% of his total strikes and does so with really good power.  He does work for the occasional takedown, and unlike his counterpart he does utilize the clinch game.    I think we will see a great back and forth fight where all aspects of MMA are used to test each other.

Prediction:  I think PU takes this one by decision.

MAIN CARD

#1/C Masaru "Faceless" Hideki (30-10-2) v #2 Bowser Stormcrow (14-1)

Weston:  The last fight heading into the main events is a welterweight title fight between champion Masaru Hideki and challenger Bowser Stormcrow.  Stormcrow’s meteoric rise came to HMMA when he defeated former two time challenger Sven Dufva in his first HMMA fight, he then went on to beat the longtime former welterweight champion.  Now in just his third HMMA fight Stormcrow has the chance to start what could turn out to be a legendary career, being the youngest fighter to capture the WW title since the legendary John Saunders.  Standing in his way is the champion Masaru Hideki making his first title defense.  Hideki comes into this fight riding a 6 fight win streak and looking to make one last push towards the top of the worlds welterweight rankings and in pursuit of glory.  Since joining HMMA he is 5-0 and has yet to lose a single round inside HMMA’s cage, the question is can the aging Hideki keep his title and dominant streak alive or will the young challenger take the title and start a path towards glory.

Rudy:  I love it, really we have a young up and coming star who I think one day will be the centerpiece of the welterweight landscape, and a guy who is 10 years his elder, and accomplished everything Stormcrow hopes to in the future.  I know Hideki still has more he wants to do that’s what makes this fight so intriguing.  These two fighters are both well-rounded athletes, I expect the majority of this fight will take place at striking range they both tend to stand and bang, and they both have excellent takedown defense, Stormcrow has a stuffed 92% of takedown attempts against him, and Hideki 83%, Hideki does possess a good double though he only averages around 1 takedown per fight but he is successful on 52% of his attempts.  In my opinion the challengers best chance at winning this fight is standing and more importantly in the clinch, I think if he can get Hideki pressed up against the cage and dirty box him we could see a new champion,  on the other side of that if Hideki can land one of those takedowns work Stormcrow over with GNP and look for a submission then he will have his biggest advantage, but either way they are so evenly matched and the fight could go any way.

Rusty Kuntz (31-10-1) v #6 "Shogün" Lyoto Rua (27-6)

Weston:  The next fight is a heavyweight clash between two HMMA newcomers.  Lyoto Rua the 6th ranked heavyweight takes on Rusty Kuntz a guy who was just barely on the outside of the rankings looking in he is the proverbial 11th man in the rankings.  These two warriors will hope to come out of their debuts successful, and start a path towards becoming a Hero in HMMA.

Rudy:  Im excited for the debut of these two fighters there is a lot of hype and expectations for both of them both have been billed as possible title contenders, we are going to see which one comes out and looks like a contender right away and which may have the harder path.  Kuntz makes no bones about his game plan he comes out swinging for the fences hoping to land the big shot before his opponent he lands around 43% of his total strikes because everything he throws Is done so with malicious intent.  If everything goes his way Saturday night he will be going home with his 30th ….yes 30th of 32 wins by (T)KO, but if it doesn’t he could be on the receving end of Rua’s slams.  Lyoto Rua is a good striker, he has a little more accuracy the Kuntz but less power, what works the best for him is the takedowns he mixes in with his strikes.  Rua lands takedowns 42% of the time from there he beats on his opponent until they wilt away, his best chance to win this fight is to stay away from Kuntz’s power work some takedowns and control  Kuntz on the ground.

Prediction:  I really see this going either way but im going to pick a small upset and go with Kuntz here.

#4 Shane Luger (21-5) v  Oscar Amazon (22-9)

Weston:  The next fight on the main card is a heavyweight showdown between former champion Shane Luger and Oscar Amazon who is making his promotional debut.  Amazon joins HMMA after having a very solid career, he has been in top organizations and had some success, one thing he is yet to do is win a title, but as we have seen before in HMMA anyone is capable of going on a run towards and winning the title.  It has happened oh so often that a fighter comes in and does just that going on a run and getting their first taste of championship seksi on the grandest stage of them all.  If he hopes to one day become champion defeating Shane Luger would be a huge step in the right direction.  Luger is the former champion who went on one of the best streaks and rose to superstardom as HMMA’s heavyweight champion.  After two straight title losses he looks to get his mojo going again and make another run towards that title and Heroic status.

Rudy:  Amazon comes into this one as the betting underdog but don’t count him out, he is slightly more skilled then Luger in the standup department, and neither of these guys have a history of taking the fight to the ground.  Amazon’s fights don’t typically last long he is a knock out or get knocked out type of fighter with 20 of his 22 wins by (T)KO, and all 9 of his losses by (T)KO.  Statistically speaking Amazon is not just a powerful fighter but also accurate he lands around 65% of his total strikes, his opponent is equally impressive in terms of accuracy but has slightly less power, although still a KO artists with 15 of his 21 wins being by way of (T)KO.  This is going to be a great fight and is one of the fights I am most interested in seeing because I want to see how the former champion rebounds.

Prediction: Luger by decision.

#5 Jay Hunter (19-9) v  #7 Don Key (25-6-2)

Weston:  The first fight on the main card is a welterweight fight between two of the divisions to contenders.  Don key comes into this one with a 1-2 record in HMMA, but those two losses are to one of the former champions of the division and one of those losses was in a title fight, a win in this fight against Jay hunter could be just what he needs to get his career back on the right path.  Jay Hunter comes into this fight on a 2 fight win streak after having lost his first fight in HMMA.  The two wins against top competition have garnered enough hype to earn the 5th spot in the rankings  and rising contender status.  Will Hunter continue on his path and become a legit contender or will Key get a much needed win and reset to his career?

Rudy:  I got ya answer little guy, but not yet first lets talk about these two, Key is an extremely accurate and powerful fighter.  He lands 70% of strikes or better in two of his 3 most used weapons.  He is also versatile in that he likes getting the fight in the clinch wearing out his opponent.  If he wants to win this fight he will want to keep the fight standing and look for his 21st (T)KO.  Hunter on the other hand throws bombs standing not landing a high percentage around 40% but what he does well is pursue the takedown.  He averages 10 takedown attempts per fight, and lands 20% of those takedowns his persistence in the wrestling game is key point in this fight, if he gets the fight to the ground he will have an advantage over Key and may be able to pick up the submission or GNP TKO victory.

Prediction:  Upset I think Key wins

PRELIMS

Weston:  You know Rudy the prelims on this card are home to insanely awesome talent, these are fights that could easily headline any PPV.  One of these fights is actually a title fight, and two others are being hyped as possibly #1 contender bouts.  Those two fights are between 4th ranked Richard Nixon and Brutaali Keijo, both men are former champions looking to get their titles back, in fact it was Nixon who took the title from Keijo, can he keep him from the title again with another win?

The other possible #1 contender bout is between Melvin Manhoef and Anthony Abaddon, these middleweights both look great coming into this thing and I know both have the desire to become champion for one of them that dream will continue and for the other it will have to be put on hold.

Rudy:  Those are great fights they really are, but wtf Weston there is a title fight on the prelims!  A TITLE FIGHT! HOW!  The two biggest stars in the middleweight division and this card is so good that they are actually fighting for the title on the Prelims, nuts!  It’s the rubber match btw between Mr Gray and JPB Gray won the first time by submission JPB came roaring back in a rematch with a decision win, and this time around I know both men went to win impressively and finish this chapter on a high note.

You know another great fight is the opening fight between the recent and former champion Nate Barnes who is the 4th ranked LHW, and Aaron Edwards, both of these guys have been solid, and they actually fought a while back, in fact it was Barnes win over Edwards that helped catapult him into title contention, im sure this time around Edwards would like to even the score.

#3 Brutaali Keijo (18-12-1) v  #4 Richard Nixon (26-8)

#1/C Jean Pierre Babin(19-5) v  #2 Mr Gray (23-12-2)

#3 Melvin Manhoef( 21-9) v  #4 Anthony Abaddon (28-16-)

#8 Aaron Edwards (12-4) v  #4 Nate Barnes (27-15)
