It"s oveR

Editorial by Jolon Williams

The commercial hit the UK some time around the beginning of May, it's meaning ... ambiguous at best. The sounds of crowds cheering in the background, the sounds of commentators screaming in delight, but the subject of these awed reactions otherwise cloaked in an obscurity. The only clue viewers were given was a date. June 19th. Curiosity would set in, with a side of a hint of anticipation, yet what it was they were anticipating, even the viewers did not know. But after a month and a half of online buzz and media attention, the commercial was revamped, and the viewer's curiosity would be sated, as the final product was revealed.

The letters shifted in place, and 'oveR' was flipped to spell one word. Revo. The picture changed, revealing one brawny fist beneath the name, before the cheers of the crowd set in again, the subject of the harried commentary revealed as a tribute to numerous, infamous MMA bouts were laid out on the screen.

The opening of REVO had been officially announced.

Seconds later, Jolon Williams' phone was buzzing off non-stop. Minutes after that, an interview had been scheduled. And only hours later, I found myself in his office, prepared and all too eager for this interview with the renowned London based Tycoon and business extraordinaire.

As he enters then, an air of straight backed confidence brimming upon the edge of arrogance practically oozing off of him, I prepare myself. As he seats himself, I contain myself no longer, immediately asking the question that I, that you, the readers, and the majority of the populace itself wants to hear the answer to.

''What is REVO?''

''What is REVO? REVO is my latest undertaking, one I have set upon alongside my new American partner, Mr. James Dean. It is an entirely new kind of organisation based upon the interactive nature of the sport, something that will take MMA itself to the next level of mainstream. People want to be entertained. People want to be immersed in the fighters, in the environment itself. REVO will do that.''

An intriguing answer, but it doesn't answer much. I attempt another approach.

''Everyone who is a fan of UK MMA, knows about your previous undertaking, NEI, and it's historic value in the UK MMA scene. It broke practically every record there was to break, and introduced London to an international audience with it's Pay-Per-Views. NEI, too, was focused on an interactive aspect of MMA, similar to how you have just described REVO. Can we expect the same?''

There is a bit of a pitying expression in his eyes as he regards me, a haughty scoff on his lips as he shakes his head.

''If I was going to do more of the same, I would not do it at all. The interactive concept in itself hinges upon creativity and innovation. What NEI did, has been done numerous times since. I have said in the past that it re-popularised the smacktalking nature of the sport. Frankly, I think I could go one step further and say that it simply popularised it in general. I do not think, if you search history, that you could find a single organisation before NEI that really got it's fighters involved on such a personal level. Soon after NEI came VFC, which basically transformed into Immortals New York. I remember that, as I was involved in it's transformation. I wanted to see more organisations like NEI arise and thrive, and as one can see from their status today, as well as the spattering of many other similar organisations to boot, the vision was a success. So there would be no point in being so redundant as to simply attempt another org of the same cut of cloth. No. REVO will take it one step further.''

Again, intriguing, if somewhat self-grandeurising, but it'd be hard to prove him wrong. Yet, he still hasn't revealed WHY to me. WHY is it different?

''So ... why is it so different?''

He pauses, as though to contemplate on how to answer the question.

''I think the simplest way that I could put it, is that it is basically two organisations within the one. Two organisations under one roof, one under my own management, and the other under Mr. Dean's. However, don't mistake me. These will not be two entirely separate entities. At the end of each month, the two organisations will look to one-up each other. The top contender from whichever side does not possess the title of whichever division, will step up to face the other camp's champ. The owners, myself and Mr. Dean, will personally handpick fighters we wish to represent us in these events. There will be a competitive edge added in addition to said interactive aspect, which will really, I think, bring it to an entirely different level altogether. It will all be about, which camp is the best, and which fighters can truly shine to bring their camp to that level of domination.''

So there you have it. Mr Williams' latest brainchild, but will it succeed? Only time will tell. For now, I think we can safely say, it's far from oveR. It's simply REVO.

- An entirely new kind of org! Focusing completely on the interactive side of the game, there will be write-ups galore, from event previews and reviews, weight class round-ups, to fighter profiles, potential interviews, and much more for those who get selected to represent their organisation each month! All of this, courtesy of myself and James Dean, both of whom are trained and seasoned writers.

- Currently recruiting in 155/170/185/205/265 weight class divisions. There is no ID limit, however, we will be using common sense in regards to match-making and recruiting in general. We aim to make sure all fighters are of relatively equal strength, and foster an environment where the managers will not only enjoy their stay, but their fighters will thrive within them as well, thus creating a loyal base from which to build on..

- Fair warning policy, as I do not wish for anyone who joins the organisation to be caught off guard. Champions will be expected to defend their title at the end of every month against the opposite camp's top contender. Failure to do so without valid reason will be met with a prompt stripping. Also, while it is not mandatory, participation in the smacktalk thread will be highly encouraged. The more enthusiasm you can pour into us, the more we can, and will, pour directly back upon you. Everyone loves to read about themselves and their fighters. Give us something to write about, and trust me, we will.

- To begin with, fighters will be placed upon a roulette system as we recruit them, to decide which camp they will join. If one side or the other begins to become overly unbalanced, then newly recruited fighters will be automatically shifted to maintain the balance without use of a roulette system. If you are, for whatever reason, unhappy with your camp, trades will be allowed. A trade roulette will also occur periodically to shake things up if deemed necessary. But we take care of all these pesky details. All YOU need to do is immerse yourself in the environment and have FUN.

- Our doors will always be open for any questions you may have. For any of you who used to fight for me in NEI, you know this to be true. I can vouch for my partner as well, he is a solid bloke who I am delighted to be doing business with. So if I didn't cover anything here, or you simply have a question in regards to the org or the running of it thereof, do not hesitate to contact either one of us.

If we can get this really going, I envision it to be an entirely new chapter in the interactive orgs we now see in MMATycoon. We aim for an org that not only relies on fighter participation, it hinges on it! You have the chance to create your own colourful history in this org. But for any of this to happen, we first need FIGHTERS! Post here, or message me or Mr. James Dean directly for a contract. We hope to see you there soon.

Thank you,

The player behind Jolon Williams.
